Congratulations, you're rickets!

Caused by insufficient phosphorous, vitamin D and/or sunlight, you cause those unlucky enough to suffer you to have swelling in the joints, and bending of the longer bones (such as those found in the legs) in growing children.

You're not very prevalent in affluent societies any more - but don't worry, there's always the third world!

If you wish, you can proudly tell the world that you give kids bendy legs with the following fine graphic:

I'm not too sure about rickets, I mean it isn't especially dramatic like plague or HIV, it is more one of those sneaky ailments that causes problems over time.

Though I suppose, on the other hand... there is a lot to be said for subtlety upon occasion.. :p

Well - with all the ones that seems to be outrages and dramatic - the lesser, more subtle ones make up the minority.
There can only be so many plauges before people will appreciate the lesser dramatic afflictions :D

What if it is? You use the word "females" as though they were another species.

I'll let that one sit, and see if it hatches.
