Getting to Level 3 - SPOILERS

Hello, having problems with level 3 in HoTU. My first game, I took in such a powerful character that she killed the Drow who were pursuing the goblin and now he won't give me the chain. I can't attack him as the game says he's friendly. So I gave up, and started again. Now I can't get the chains to work. I've attached them, but I can't see the colours above the pool (maybe my cimputer can't cope with them) and when I look in the pool, it just says, "Six colours swirl above the pool". I shall go and have another look, but is there any other way to get to level three? Otherwise I'm stuck.

That door should be the only (legal) way into Undermountain level 3.
Try turning off allmost all graphics options and details, and see if the colours will be visible now.
The displaying colors are unfortunally random, so you can't even get the combination from somebody else.
You can however use trial and error.
I belive when you yank a chain that isn't the right one, it says something along the line of "nothing happens" or something.
You need to activate the chains representing the 4 colors in the rigth sequence of 6.
Just do it systimatic and you should be able to find the right sequence of colors rather quickly.
Also - have you patched your game fully? If not, try doing that and see if it helps with the puzzle.
Last option you could do, although I am not an expert in this area. would be to use the toolset to load up the module and alter the door (remove it, unlock it or similar), then resave the module and see if that works in-game.
I can't help much in that area, because I've not messed around with the toolset much (other then finding tags to work around bugged items).
Hope some of this helps.

Thanks for that. I thought that the colours were random every time, so if I pulled the wrong one at any time, I would have to start again.
OK, I start with the green chain, I know that one.....
I haven't got the patch yet, I can only access the internet through wor, and I'm leery about downloading stuff even to the A drive. I'm hoping they'll do what Baldur's gate did and just issue a commercial disc I can use.
Right, off to up my charater a few more levels. I've never tried a Paladin beofre, and she's got such a great sword!

Have just looked closer on the script, and using the chains and failing the puzzle should not reset it, and re-randomize the colors.
It will however set off a lightning trap, so use save/load would be advicable.
The only way I can see that the puzzle would "re-randomize" the color sequence would be to re-use the Pool of Colors .... although I am only 95% sure that this will reset the puzzle and create a new sequence. (I'm not very familiar with NwNScript, but it does resemble the programming languages I know, so can somewhat read the code

)
So - if you use save/load - you should be able to work your way through the sequence withouth resetting it.
Hope you can get through it

Now this is fascinating. When I pull the chains in the wrong order, after the third chain, I get a red dragon wyrmling attacking me. It does that sticking the fingers of rock through the floor thing that you associate with demons, and I do that "Oh my god, I'm about to die thing". However, they are really easy to kill. No discharges of electricity anywhere, so it might be character dependent. However......
When I was rushing towards the door, I got attacked by one of the statues standing at the side. There's a trap, which I can't disable (except by bashing the statue) and when I told Sharwyn to disable it, she couldn't. She ran around all over the trap and wouldn't stop until we were all dead. I did however, go and play with the three levers in that other room (having reloaded), and when I later ran over the trap, it was then disabled. Of course, I can't remember what order I pulled the levers in. I think I left the left one away from me, and the other two towards me. So this might disable all the electric traps on that level.
Right, thanks to you guys I am now through the door! I don't know where I was looking, but it was in the wrong place, evidently, and the colours showed up if you stand still and look at them. Always helpful.
