My game won't install!

I've purchased Divine Divinity, but the blasted thing won't install on my computer. This is the first time ever I've had this problem. In the middle of Wise-Installation preparation it tells me "Divine Divinity has encountered a problem and needs to shut down."
Anyone had this problem before?

That's bizarre. Do you get any kind of details that look like a memory location? If so, you may have a conflict on your hands.

The only answer the game gives me is:
Error Report:
AppName: divsetup.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 ModName: divsetup.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.0 Offset: 00001e08
looks to my untrained eye like the problem lies in the Wise Installation Wizard itself.
Any suggestions?

Or possibly the registry. My old hard drive had something stuck in there that was causing abnormal terminations during any installation. I got around it by doubleclicking the installable executable in TurboBrowser, a WinExplorer substitute that I liked to use on Win98. Oddly enough, it worked. So did (most of the time) copying the entire disk to a temp directory, and trying to install from there.
If it is the registry, I don't know what to suggest. A friend who's pretty tech told me that any installation of Windows, particularly pre-XP, should ideally be scrubbed each year, with a new OS copy and fresh applications installed, just to clean out all the debris left in the registry.

Well, it's annoying me so much I'm actually gonna buy a pc just for gaming, so I can wipe the blasted thing whenever I want to. Use the old one just for work.
