Random road encounter w/ 2 adventurers

I was travelling from Nulb to Hommlet and had an unusual random encounter. No, it wasn't the wandering bard. Instead, it was a pair of adventurers (IIRC, a fighter and a cleric). They claimed to be heading to loot a lost temple of some kind with a statue that had huge gems for its eyes. I was wondering if this is a nod to the old 1st edition PHB artwork.
The only options I had was to either talk or fight. Playing a Neutral Good party, I opted to talk. I was figuring maybe they'd offer to join up or show me a spot on the map, but nothing came of it. They vanished after the dialogue.
Has anyone else encountered these guys? If so, did you learn more than that, or try to attack them?

I actually met a whole gang of adventurers! 1 cleric, 1 fighter, 1 barbaian, 1 wizard and 1 rouge! I talked to them and they also mentioned the big gems and all that. After the dialoge I could either choose to ask them to join me or attack. Either way I would end up attacking them tho. (I was playing a neutral evil party) I killed em all and got some really neat loot, thats bout all. Oh and my druid learnt a few new spells after watching the wizard.

That's interesting. I wonder why it didn't offer me a chance to join up with them? I suspect you can only encounter them 1 time, so I've missed any chance at getting loot.
It would be really cool if the game is coded to include a chance to meet them one more time on their way back from successfully looting the gems.
Next time around, I'm considering playing an evil party (or at least some evil characters in the party), purely for variety. It will be interesting to see if I encounter them then. Their loot shall be mine!

.
you can meet other parties in random encounters...
(normally you meet them while walking in a river!!!)
...and you can get a nice amount of loot killing them...

Random Encounter : NPC Party
Hi to you all
AFAIK there is only one encounter on the road that is a Npc party, and Kalendraf and emzigirl is referring to the same one.
If you have sufficient skill in Survival you can choose to avoid this encounter, but what's strangde is that only two of them show in the encounter menu.
Imediately after engaging the encounter dialoge will be initiated, and no matter how hard you try they can never join your group, since there's actually 5 of them.
You can explore this by reloading Autosave after the encounter ends.
If asked to join forces they will say some thing like they're too busy, they have to go to this temple first.
All of them are lvl 5, so they're easy to kill, and i find that their loot isn't worth much. Some +1 armor, +1 weaponns and +1 rings, which is nice if you encounter them early, but near worthless late-game.
I have never met them twice, though....

What do you mean, your Druid learnt new spells ? You have me confused here.

Have you met more than one group ? Additional info would be most welcome.

They are...
Ikian - leader - human cleric (?)
Ogavick - dwarf fighter (?)
Vincent Visionmaker - human (?) mage (wizard, I guess)
Non - halfling rogue
Neukoln - elf ranger
There are the only group of NPCs you encounter - Zaxis being a solo encounter - but the funny thing is, I have actually encountered them twice (throw it on the bug list, eh?), but they are supposed to be a unique, one-time encounter. In my logbook, it only showed me as having killed one of each of them, but I know better...

...sorry - my fault...
...was a little bit irritated about the report of a random encounter with a 2 person party...
....I also only met the party of 5...
...but it would have been great if there were a random party generator for the random encounters implemented...
...fighting another (evil) party would be much more fun then 3 pirates or lizards !
