is there any way to turn this !@$#%!% thing off without resitng?

Yes. Left-click on your character and choose the "Cancel Polymorph" option. It should be at the 6 o'clock position. You can't, of course, turn it off when you are fighting the Gate Guardian. It's scripted to turn you into the three animals and back on it's own then.
