According to the manual you get a bonus for Light or Dark side mastery.

To summarize, however:
LSM
Guardian: +3 STR
Sentinel: +3 CON
Consular: +3 CHA
DSM
Guardian: +1d10 damage (might be +1d8)
Sentinel: Poison Immunity
Consular: +50 to Force Points Pool ("mana")
