hi .. pls help. im experiencing this very strange problem.
i start kotor and run the game fine.
i get pass the first stange absolutley fine as well .
then i get to the 2nd stage . then everything becomes unplayable. my character goes crazy if i try to move it. a light tap on the forward button sends it going crazy.. running into walls and the whole screen stutters like crazy. my character also seems to have gotten teleportation powers as it just appears right across the room in an instant!
my pc specs surpass the requirements.. as the analysis tells me..
i am running on a geforce fx5600 with p41.7ghz and 768ram.

What do you mean, "first stage" and "second stage?" Could you explain, please?

the first stage refers to the tutorial stage where you escape from the ship...
the second stage refers to the one where you wake up from the vison and talk to crath.
pls help cos i love the game and it becomes absolutely unplayable as a simple tap on the keyboard sends the chracter running for miles!

768 RAM? Are you positive about this? Last I checked, ram didn't come in the increment.
Anyway, I had a similar problem, and found that after rebooting my system, it seemed to have vanished. IF that fails, lower the graphics setting, as well as the refresh rate.

yeah.. 3 sticks of 256 ram..
i lowered the settings all the way.. but it still doesnt work ..
rebooting dosent seem to do anything as well...
its weird cos the first stage plays fine.. then everything after that is unplayable..
any help?

Wow. Never seen a MoBo with three Ram slots. Funky.
Anyway, my last suggestion would be to turn off any programs running in the background (MSN, and so forth), and to pick up a Radeon card because they are are so much better. If you wish to stick with the fx card, get the latest Detenator drives.

well .it simply baffles me why the first stage plays alright but the second stage becomes this way..
could it be a bug?

That is a really weird bug. I can't think of what could be causing it, it doesn't sound like any RAM or video card problem I've ever experienced and I don't see how it could be your processor. Have you posted on the official forums?

It could be the graphic card that is defect.. It usually shows within 1-3 months, but it could go as long as six
and 1,7 pentium : 700mb ram ?? why? are you into graphic editing ect?
I cant recall where i read it but the ram might be the problem, ill get back to it

Very strange. You've got the latest drivers, correct?
Have you checked up on the Bioware tech boards? If it's a common problem, there should be a thread devoted to it. If there isn't, I'd incline to Aegis' view--that it's an issue specific to your machine, and could have to do with TSRs running behind the scenes. Try to remove as many memory-resident programs as you can before running KotoR. Are you using WinXP, or an earlier Windows OS? If earlier, you should be able to check all your startup processes under Accessories/System Tools/System Information. If you're using XP, you'll have to try the Task Manager, which is less informative.

Nemesis , cant be the graphics card as i run other games and programs well enough. anyway .. 700+ ram is just abt right for a decent gaming machine i guess.. how much ram does ur pc run on??
im getting the game updated and getting the latest drivers from nvidia.. so im keeping my fingers crossed... i haven checked with the bioware forums yet.. may have to soon if lucasarts doesnt give me a solution ..
i make an efffort to keep my computer free of memory resident programs .. therefore there is virtually zero programs runnning in the back ground. .. again .. all this is weird as i run the first stage superbly.. but the rest fails to come together.. i tried to continue playing but its simply impossible.. as im unable to move the character to the precise area that i want..
thanks for the replies.. i'll continue to check back..

Just a comment on motherboards... 3 ram slots is not uncommon.

check ure ram usage, i never use more than 80% (512 single on msi k7 with 2200+ and radeon 9500pro)
i always run my games in 1024 or more, and it has never been a problem to me..
as for the graphic card, if it is that which is malfunctioning, it will just **** itself or gradually get worse (starts with the games)..
use windows update... and use spybot search&destroy

Do let us know what happens after you update your drivers, and do a cold boot.

I frequently use over 80% RAM, particularly when playing KotOR, and I've never ever encountered anything like this.

do you have 700mb ram as well?
and if so, is it cheap or expencive ram?

Me? I have 512mb DDR.
I don't believe his quantity of RAM could have anything to do with this. I know plenty of people who use three chips.

i have seen problems with this before, but i would set the ram problem as a 2nd option
