Prison 1 help

Hello all,
Me being the newbie that I am. I need some help on prison 1. I have completed all the steps on this level but one. I cannot activate the portal in room or at point 13(portal). I have both keys and the air elemental statue. I keep getting the message
"this portal needs a key of some kind to activate the portal"
Now how in the heck do i use the key.
Please give me a no brainer approach to getting out this level and up to the next level.

Do you have 2 wand keys and the air elemental statue? The statue is used at the door in the top left side of the map (after the evil dwarves). The wand keys will be used latter on. To find the key to the portals, you need to search the garden where you meet the dryads. At the bottom there is a nice room full of traps (use Imoen's detect trap ability) Inside one of the chests you will find the key.

I just re-did that first dungeon with an elven F/M/T and the weirdest thing kept happening:
My hit-points total kept fluctuating from its starting point of about 33, right up to 76 at one point, and coming back down again.
With level-ups, I finished the dungeon with about 50 HPs.
PS - Having Grand mastery in LS and 3*s in dual-wield with a LS in each hand was *awesome*! I just ripped through everything!!

Aye, indeed i have both wand keys and the air elemental statue. I was at the portal in the room/area marked with a # 13 on the walkthru maps provided on this site. I was trying to go thru the portal that is the the north of the bedroom north of the Dyrads. Not the bedroom south western of the Dyrads.

my beserker / thief has the same profs as that and agreed it is awesome..he goes like a lawnmower through the nasties.

What my question really was how do I use the key? How do I use the air elemental statue? Do I put in on the ground? I know I cant double click it, or put it in my quick items or any of my hand inventorys?
I am lost here obviously

You need to go to the room SW of the dryads and get the key to the portal. If you do not go to that room, you will never be able to use the portal. Watch out for traps.
