I have been reading about temple of elemental evil and I was wondering how you level up. Is it like baldurs gate where you choose what you are and stay like that or is it like IceWind dale 2 where you can mix and match? I want a shaman-like half-orc that is like a barbarian/druid or something.

Multi-Classing a Half-Orc

Yes, you can multi-class. But start with the more difficult one (Druid) for level one, or you might easily have a Barbarian unable to learn Druid skills.

Multi classing does have disadvantages.
If the classes are very differant, you get a 20% XP reduction.
You also will end up not being very good at anything.
It worth getting to level 7 or 9 before multiclassing (I left it till level 9)

But if a half-orcs favored class is barbarian will it still have the xp reduction if I level him barbarian after druid?

No, since half-orcs' favoured class is Barb.

I'd go heavy on the druid, light on the barbarian, personally.

Just throwing my opinion in here. I'm assuming you've researched both classes and made sure your character qualifies for both. If I was going to multiclass a character in this game between druid and barbarian, I think I would take Barbarian for level 1. You get max hit points for your first level, so I would go with the class that helps most in that area. However, I haven't tried multiclassing in this game yet, so I may be missing something.

If I want to multiclass I start out as a rogue for all those skill points, and usually put all 9 remaining levels in a supporting role class, such as a druid/monk/bard, since the game doesn't require a high level rogue.

The way I play, I don't need hit points anyway. There are so many powerful humanoid NPCs that I get all the tanks I need by loading up on Charm Person and Suggestion to cast at the leader, and I just use fireball on the rest of 'em.
