Ok, I am trying to get v1.4 installed, not sure if it properlly worked or not, so a question.

what version should the title screen say?

mine says A.264 -- 08/30/2001

is this correct?

Mh... Probably the installation was not successful.

When I launch the game, I clearly see a line like "version 1.4 3/#/2002".
Not sure about the exact date, but I think it says March 2002.

Anyway it clearly states it is Pool of Radiance version 1.4
