BG plotline

I've decided to go back to BGI, which I originally played on Mac 3 years ago, and create a character that I can take through the whole plotline.
Just to confirm the order . . .
I should play BG, TOSC, IWD, SOA, ToB, in that order?
Second question, just to get input from seasoned vets such as yourselves . . .
I feel the most versatile character I could play through the whole stroy with would be a F/M/Th . . . thoughts? Pros? Cons?

IWD isn't a part from the BG series.

Thanks Bentz - you just saved me $9.99 on ebay . . . .
Is it, though, the same 'game', as in, same rules, interface etc? Just not part of the same story?

IWD is more of a dungeon romp than BG was, but yes, iits interface and rules are nearly identical.

Yeah a fighter/mage/thief could work. Are you planning on soloing? (i found a fighter/thief easyer to solo then a f/m/t ion BG1 but taht on the other hand)
If your not soloing i woulkd choose a single, or multiclass with 2classes.
A thief class would be nice in BG2, but you can play whatever suits you best.

And if you're really starting out in the game, the best thing to do is to have somewhat of a balanced party. You might want to go with 2 or 3 warriors (single- or multi/dual-classed, depending on race and available class combinations*), 1 or 2 healers* (Druid or Cleric, your choice), a Thief*, and an arcane spellcaster* (either a Mage or Sorceror; Sorcs normally can't dual/multi-class). You could go with 1 warrior, thief, arcane spellcaster and healer, and then go with something else like a Bard (if you think their skills will be enough of a benefit, mainly their "Bard Song").
Overall, it's all up to you. Good luck.

The most annoying drawback while playing a f/m/t is the one weapon slot.

Only in BG1, he/she has 2 in BG2
