My opinion is that IWD2 is better then any game, but still it isn't better then NWN or BG (1 or 2). I haven't seen IWD yet, so I can't talk about it. If you are really into RP games, the Forgottten Realms PC games series will be great for you. If you aren't into RP games, this game will be out of the computer fast.

My advice to you is to see if you can get a demo of this game or see if one of your friends have this game. Try the game and see if you like it. Then decide if you want to buy it...

I hope I helped... :D

really, it depends on what you like in a game...

for roleplaying elements, IwDII is lacking, but you can add in your own roleplaying...

it is primarily a dungeon crawl, with a lot of combat...

imho, the best attributes of IwDII is the custom creation of a party of up to 6 characters... so you get to create your own personal party from scratch, using 3ed rules. the variety of races and classes makes for a wide range of choices for party members... and results in a great deal of replay value if you enjoy that aspect of the game...

the combat is very interesting, and forces you to try different strategies throughout the game to prevail

the game plot is very linear, but most games today are...

there is some interesting dialog, though...

so, really, you need to decide what type of game you like, and how you like to play, before deciding if you want to pick this game up or not...

soon it will probably start to be found signifcantly discounted, and in that case, I would say it is worth the price to try out...

I personally think that it is better than NWN, but NWN is designed as a mod-happy online playing game... IwDII is primarily a SP gaming experience...

I liked BGII and IWD but I thought IWD focused too much on inside encounters where the snow scenes were far better.
Is thought strategy was lacking in IWD and it was too simple, see badies and get them all the time unlike BGII

IWD 2 enemies are a lot smarter than IWD enemies. Mages actually cast spells to counter you, ex, you caste a fireball spell, they will actually cast protection from fire. The AI is a lot better then the first IMO. And the tactic of inching through and killing off each monster in a group as they become visible doesn't work, whether they are in your line of sight or not, they will react once you attack one of their number.

And there is a good bit of time spent outside in the snow at certain parts of the game ;)

Overall, I liked the game a lot. The combat required a lot more thinking than the first game, the 3rd edition rules were a lot more fun to play with, and some of the dialog is very interesting.

If you liked the first one, I'd say odds are you'll like the second.
