Does Flail of Ages attract danger?

In the description of the Flail of the Ages and its' history there is a warning that the bearer may actually attract danger from monsters trying to "get it back"?
But I never experienced any pursuit or added monster trouble....
did any of you?

Unfortunatly, no. I was hoping it would cause a few interesting encounters, too

Nifty idea, though. I also wondered about a suit of armor you got relatively early in SoA, whose description made mention of the wearer never having it for very long. That's the kind of comment that practically begs for some sort of scripted, periodic event.

I guess this stuff got grouped with all the unfinished quests, too.
That would've been cool to have scripted events like that.

When I read the description for the Flail of Ages, I too expected someone to come after me to claim it. It might have been fun. But don't forget the Githyanki who want the Silver Blade back. At least there's that.

Yeah, the Silver Sword "quest" is a cool event, but I always feel sorry for the guy and give it back to him. Also, the dialogue is funnier if you do it that way.

All of the "super-duper special hand-made" items are worthless or nearly so, plus you can't even sell them for what you paid to have them forged! The silver sword, for example, has a 25% chance of outright kill but the speed factor is 10 so you swing it v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. You can't even sell the stupid flail! If you can't use it, why not be able to give it to Nalia for a keepsake and get some XP?

But this is always true. You can never sell an item for as much as you paid for it (except to the buggy priestess in the fish city).

At a 25% chance of outright kill, any faster and it would be godlike. As for selling them for the forging price, who ever heard of selling a car back to the manufacturer for the amount of the purchase price?

Fabulous has the header there. How do you expect a merchant to make a living when he buys
and sells wholesale?
The only descent weapons I found in BG2 that were interesting were the Equalizer, Ras, Namarra, the Stiletto of Demarchness, the Tuigan Bow, and the Mace of Distruption.
Now, if you all will compare my favorite weapons with the grand master list of +15 THAC0 weapons, you'll see that they're pretty crappy - mostly in the +1-2, occasionally 3 range. However, in BG2 they just spent so much time beefing up the weapons to God-like abilities (i.e. Carsomyr
+5, Cutthroat
+4 , Sling of Avoreen
+4 ...ect...) that it's really not too much fun anymore.
I guess that's another reason why I thought BG1 was more interesting... You had to *spend* your money on rare, magical items up until the end of the game to survive. Here, as soon as you're out of Irenecus' dungeon... No, wait. You find a ton of magic items in there, too.
One weapon I really miss from BG1: the Short Sword of Backstabbing.

I liked the weapon balance without ToB, though there still could've been less powerful weapons (and armour, for that matter).

Short sword of backstabbing still exists. It's +3, you get it from thief chief.
Uber weapons are part of the fun of the game however, and it's not like you're ever short on money.

I guess it's in one's own opinion. Personally, I liked killing hordes of Bandits in just a few swings with my Longsword +2 that cost me most of my gold as they shot at my magic platemail armor with thier pititful little arrows.

I rate the Flail of Ages as one of the six uber weapons in all SoA (together with Crom Faeyr, Celestial Fury, Carsomyr, Staff of the Magi and Improved Mace of Disruption). The three different types of elemental damage wreak havoc on all kinds of heavily protected creatures (stoneskin, various immunities) and the Slow effect is really noticeable.
Some modders tossed around the idea of making a Rakshasa band ambush the party some time after assembling the flail, but nothing came out of it. Still, this is one of the more likely mini-mods to see the light of day.

Don't forget the Dragon's Breath halberd found in the underdark. +4 weapon and one point each of fire, cold, acid, electrical and poison damage.
