As per the subject what do you do with the golden pantaloons?

Just keep them with you untill the end of ToB,
or higlite for spoiler

The golden pantaloons are found in BG1,
and can be taken with you to bg2.

In bg2 you can find the silver pantaloons
and in ToB you can find the bronze pantalets.

In spellhold you will find a piece of paper, with unreadable words.
When you rtranslate them (a=c b=d etc.) it sais:

"You think I am crazy, but they want you to think that. I know secrets. Keep the pantaloons. Always keep the pantaloons."

When you will bring all 3 together in ToB you will get the big metal unit.

location of silver pantaloons [highlite to read]
Get the piece of red cloth in the graveyard district from the burried alive man, then go to the dock and confront a wizzard in red (bottom right part of the area IIRC).
When you find the kidnapped woman, don't set her free, but collect the ransom

location of bronze pantalets [highlite to read]
Use a stone to flesh scroll on the petrified adventures in Abazigal's lair, and send them on a quest, this way you'll get (next to some hillarious dialoge) the bronze pantalets
