Hm, you can try the Cloudkill tactic or with extremly high Charisma you can persuade him in giving you the Goblet...

Try Finger of Death after lover resistence.

Summon a Mordenkainen's sword and send it to attack him.He will concentrate his attacks on it.Then move your party close and hack him to death.

After i defeated him this way,i checked the swords condition, and it was uninjured(!).

Just watch out for his insect plague spell.

A strategy that worked for me was to send in a hasted stealthed thief (alone) to provoke an attack, then exit back to Suldaneslar. When I returned with my whole party, the black dragon was waiting just inside the steps but had no magic. It was easy to kill him.

should use those dragon slaying items for you fighter, while your mages, use breaches, lower resistance, ruby ray, etc, to lower it's resistance, it's not difficult, because your char.'s level should be high enough when u r in CH7, my exceed the ex cap

I generally used straight forward hack and slash on all the dragons (once I was high enough level for it to work).

Ans summon everything that can be summoned. Cannon fodder = Good.

I find that a brute force approach works best.

load up all spell triggers etc with Lbolts and magic missles/acid arrows.

Get a cleric to cast magic resistance (level 5-6 spell). Get a mage to cast lower resistance (brings it's resistance to about 15.)

Then just keep casting direct damage spells, try and fit in a greater malison and a few spook spells if possible.
