For some reason every time I try to start the game, nothing happens. The cpu is running, but the game doesn't start and I eventually get an error msg from Windows. After some testing, I found that if i disable the sound, I can get it to work... sometimes. At first I thought it might be my Voodoo card, but now I'm using a GForce 440, and I'm having the same problem. Although, when I disable the sound and open the game, the game do not seem to slow down the way it used to. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

Sounds more like your sound card.

Is it an "onboard" or "slotted" card?

"Onboard" sound cards bite, they suck up to much memory.

I'm pretty sure it's slotted, though I'll have to check with my brother. I don't usually have any problems with sound in any of my other games, though, with the notable exception of GTA3...

That is an issue with your sound card, drivers or the card itself. What you want to do is make sure there are no conflicts in the system profile bit of Windows (I assume you do), and if you have another computer or sound card, replace the one in there now and see if it will run, that should tell you if there are errors with the card or the drivers.
