But why is my druid unable to cast any first level spells? I just started the game, and I'm currently using a multiclass ranger/druid (3/1). I already selected the spells I wanted in my spellbook and rested, but my two first level spells are grayed out. Cantrips work fine. What's the deal?

Some spelll need a target to be cast. If you try to chooce a spell from the radial menu on your self but the spell requires you to target someone to cast it then it is dimmed.
Try to place the spells in the quickslots, there you can chooce any spell that has been memorized for later use.
