I just installed BG2 on my new comp and several of the sounds aren't playing: footsteps, combat sounds, spell casting souds etc. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
My system:
Athlon 2200+
1 GB ram
WinXP
GeForce 4400Ti
AB audigy.

Nice system
What type of speakers have you got? The Audigy may be trying to run in 4.1 or 5.1 surround mode, and if you've only got a 2 or 3 piece speaker set it will drop the sounds that would normally go to the rear speakers.
Also check the audio setup in the config program and make sure all the settings for sound are at full, and check that environmental audio is selected in the sound setup inside the game.

Also make sure you have the latest patch for BG2 and the most recent drivers for your sound card.
One other thing, which sounds insulting but isn't meant to be: check and make sure that all of your speaker cables are properly and securely connected both between the computer and the main speaker, and the satellite speakers and the subwoofer. Some speaker sets, like my Altec Lansing AVS-500s, have two input wires; one is for stereo receivers and one is for computer sound cards and you have to make sure that the correct one is connected or no sound will come out of the rear satellite speakers.

Well I checked some things out and I think I found the problem. I am currently running a 2 speaker system (I have to wait a little bit for a nice 4.1 or 5.1) and everything works if I turn EAX off (I updated the drivers too). I think that if I turn it on my sound card assumes that I have a surround system, even though I don't and it is set for 2 speakers. I don't know why it would do this though because my old system had a SB card and the sounds worked with EAX on...

You should also be able to specify in the sound card or audio control properties what the output type is, and set it to 2 speaker only.

@Virgil57:
If money is an issue for your right now, I picked up my Altec Lansing speakers at Sam's Club for $40, so if you're a Sam's Club member, you may drop by and see if they have the same item and price. I think they're 4.1 compatible, plus they're about half the price of Creative's 4.1 speaker set.
