The references thread

Since I've managed to find so many references to other work just in one day of playing, I'm figuring the game is probably full of them. Might as well start a thread to list them.

Aleroth:
Joram - main character in Weiss & Hickman's 'Darksword' books
Seth - his sword is named 'Brightblade' and is the soul of a warrior dedicated to duty. Assumedly Sturm Brightblade, from the Dragonlance books

The Dwarf Bread Inn -- A Discworld reference, where dwarf bread is not only a culinary delicacy, but an offensive weapon of war.

Nice idea. Be careful, though: "Brightblade" is a perfectly good sword name without reference to any Dragonlance books. I've seen Brightblade used as a last name in several fantasy books--though I honestly couldn't name any at the moment. Much of the stuff was eminently forgettable, as are the Dragonlance novels, IMO. (Though that's neither here nor there--well, actually, it's there. It was here a minute ago.)

I'll keep a watch for references. I tend to catch the weird things, like the Green Cat Inn in Betrayal at Krondor (reference to Fritz Leiber's wonderful fantasy novel, The Green Cat) and Miles Gloriosus in Morrowind (reference to a much-beloved braggart and cowardly soldier in many farces written during the Roman Empire by Plautus and Terrence). :)

A few references I've found in the Cursed Abbey:

There's a book of evil, written by Cath Uhlu (reference to the Cthulu Mythos, books of horror created by HP Lovecraft)

Why We Move Around the Sun, by Galilii the Imp (obvious references to Galileo Galilei

Rights of Orc by Tom Pane (a reference to the Rights of Man, an influential tract by Thomas Paine, a friend of Thomas Jefferson and (initially) George Washington)
