Yet another computer problem

My computer wants to connect Internet at the start-up, even though I don't want to. How can I change this? I think it's done by msconfig, but I can't find anything looking like connection.
I believe it's caused by SpamWeasel I installed. Terrifying thought, really...
I'm sorry, Mr Flibble, but I had to uninstall it.

Have a look at the Autostart folder in your user profile (to be found under Start\Programs\Autostart). You maybe find something in it that causes your computer to connect after booting.
If there is something in that folder that looks like an internet connection command, just delete it.

One thing that would help would be knowing what operating system your currently up and running on. If its an older OS than XP I would consider checking in c:\windows\start menu\programs\startup
and deleting any programs you currently dont want starting up on your machine.
We could go into reg edit and check stuff out further if wanted...
just let me know.

The number one cause of this that I've found so far is file sharing applicatiopns that use your internet connection, such as KaZaa Media Desktop, Morpheus, and advertisement monitoring programs and download managers (Gator etc...). Do you have anything like that installed? If so, try disabling them through msconfig. With a name like Spamweasel I don't blame you.

If you have Norton on your system and also have automatic liveupdate selected then it will try to dial up as you boot your computer.
There is also a virus which will download a version of itself using your dial up at start up...not that I want to scare you but it is a possibility.
I think Flibble is probably right though, check your start up folder and then check what is starting up in msconfig.

Do you have any firewall software installed on that computer? ZoneAlarm, which is free from
http://www.zonelabs.com, can be set to block applications from accessing the internet if you don't want them too. Other application like Norton's Internet Security and BlackIce Defender do the same thing.
