Revenge.

How jusitifiable is revenge? At what point does serving justice become vengeance? Is an eye for an eye style justice or revenge? Is forgiveness weakness?

Some of you know that my cat was killed by a car on friday night. Whoever hit him didn't even stop and I found his collar a block and a half away from where I found my cats body. It's unlikely that I will ever find the driver, but if I ever do, it's equally unlikely they will walk away. I know this is vengeance, but I someone can't just escape killing an innocent creature through there own neglect of laws. I live on a relatively quiet street, my cats body was about 2 ft from the curb, and killed instantly, his collar, like I said, was a block and a half away. This sickens and enrages me. What kind of coward takes a life and doesn't even stop?

You have a right to be enraged. You have a right to vengeance. Unfortunately in our society you don't have a right to beat up the culprit (Life isn't like "A Time to Kill"). What you want to do you can't do. Though it sucks, sometimes you have to swallow and move on no matter how much it hurts. If you find him? Bring him to court. That's the best you can do, and yet it isn't enough. Vigilente justice is a very interesting concept, though I can't see how it would help. I'm sorry for your cat. I'm shocked at that man's irresponsibility. I'm sorry if this post wasn't helpful...

Quite the contrary. Forgiveness shows much strength. It can be very hard to forgive people for doing things that hurt you, but if/when you do forgive someone it demonstrates that you have a strong mind and you can put things behind you. If everyone forgave everyone for mistakes and doing evils, then the world would be clensed of rage and evil. Many times people commit crimes and become mad through rage and unforgiving others at one point. Some things can be deemed unforgivable, though. Murder is probably one of those things. I find it almost impossible to forgive someone who intentionally cost something/someone their life. But you DO have a right to get angry at the idiot who killed your cat. Heck, Im angry at him, and I dont even know him or your cat.

Remember: If everyone believed in the theory: An Eye for an Eye, then we'd all be blind.

Interesting posts, I like how they are the opposite.

Plus, if you take the eye first, their depth perception will be severly impaired, making it hard for them to get your eye....

I think Tyb may be right, just bear it. Perhaps I was just angry, though I still am. We'll see.

I suggest finding means to divert the anger (A first person shooter, exercise, a punching bag, a stress ball).

COMMrade...

...call me superstitious but I believe in karma.

Someday, somehow, that person who did your cat in will suffer...

...and it doesn't have to be in your own hand, but still would give the desired effect.

A blind world

The way things are going recently a blind world doesnt look that bad to me. Considering at least when we have poked all our eyes out we would actually have a reason to be ignorant rather than how currently everyones just so full of it.

I say karma might be true, sure eye for an eye isn't really square... But if it was my cat. You better believe I'd hunt the son of a ***** down and at least put him 5,000 bucks in the hole to his car. You can kick a mans ass, but nothing kicks a mans ass worse than debt. Unless he drives a beamer, then just kill him.
