Experience independent of difficulty

I just read that the amount of experience you gain is independent of what difficulty setting you have it on. This is great for me because I like to see my characters get to high levels so I can cast all the neat spells and stuff so I was planning on going through on at least normal and having a very carefully planned party (with many aaismars +4 attribute points at the cost of one ecl). Now I can role play more. Take a dwarf fighter instead of aaismar. Set the difficulty down if I need to and still be able to cast all the cool stuff and get lots of feats and the like by the end.

Welll.... not quite.
It's true nothing is worth more exp on the higher difficulty settings then on the lower. But in the higher difficulty setting you'll encounter more monsters (a fight with 1 kobold on easy will be replaced by a fight with five kobolds on insane, for example) and thus earn more total xp from the simple expedient of killing more monsters.

Do you get more XP for playing in Heart of Fury mode? I thought I read in the manual that you did.

HOW is a whole 'nother story. Yes, you do get more experience... the monsters are significantly beefed up, individually.
