expanding screen

I've noticed a strange thing recently.

A couple of months ago I noticed a slight trembling in my screen.
So I changed my screen's refresh frequency. (from 60 to 75 Htz >the screen can handle it) Problem solved, or so I thought.
Then I noticed that my screen would expand when I pushed the windows button. So I changed it back. No more expanding, just the slight trembling, but I didn't mind.

But now it seems my screen does it all the time no matter what screen refresh frequency I have. Every time I push the windows button, the screen gets a bit bigger or something. Very annoying!

I hope this makes sence to you.

Does anybody know if this can be fixed?

thanx! :)

How old is your monitor? The ray tube in it could be going bad. You might want to check your documentation and see if it's still under warranty and get it replaced.

Have you had any problems with power surges lately? That would be something that could cause your ray tube to go on the fritz. An older TV of mine got flashed by lightning and it developed a problem where the screen would do funky stuff by expanding or changing size spontaneously and it had some v-hold problems. I got a new cathode ray tube and it's been fine ever since.

It's just over 3 years or so.
And I can't recal any powersurges or something.

And, I could be wrong, but other users don't seem to have that problem.

I'll cheack it all out later.
Thanx :)

Sounds like the vertical and/or horizontal hold is going. They are really cheap to fix, depending on service in your area. See if you can find a repair agent for your brand of monitor.

I arrange these repairs for my customers fairly frequently, and they usually come to around NZ$120 (about US$55).

There is probably a button on your moitor somewhere, or possibly a menu setting called Degaussing, this will make a sound like when one turns on the monitor and the process will visibly shake the view from side to side.

I can't recall exactly the technology behind Degaussing but it apparently can sort some monitor problems...although i think Flibble might be right by the sound of it.

You might want to think about upgrading, in the UK one can get a 17" monitor trade for about £75.

Do you have any electrical equipment near the screen, like a fan? I have a very similar problem and no matter how many times you degauss it, or how fast you change the refresh rate, the screen still trembles.

That is a very good point. The fan also produces an electrostatic field which will permanently damage ones monitor. That is why one gets the wobble.

Well, it doesn't wobble. It just gets bigger when I push the windows button.
I use degaussing every once and again. So that can't be it. And I don't have an electrical device near the monitor.

I haven't had time to see if other users have the same problem, I had my school intro. So I've been pretty busy. But I was hoping it was some kind of XP option thingy.

Thanx for you input everyone. I'm gonna look into it all. :)

BTW, I just noticed it also happends when I use for ex. "Favorites" in explorer.

Do you mean the window is dropping off the sides of the viewable screen? I have had this problem with the occasional custome and i was just wondering ;)

I haven't covered the total screen capacity.
So when the screen expands, it's still totally viewable.

It kind of looks a balloon that gets inflated more when I push the windows button. very strange.
