Owch
Oops. I thought the graphics comment was directed at us...maybe it was....either way, the below post stands.....sorry.
Ok, I'll take the graphics hit without going off. Believe it or not, there is so much more than JUST graphics, that we have'nt really made that a priority. The reasoning behind that? Well, many of those games you've seen in development in the past, like Dawn (in my opinion), were just graphics.....meaning someone that was good with 3D Studio made awesome pics, then posted them somewhere, and people really thought THAT was EXACTLY what the game was going to look like. Reality? They had no game engine......they had no gamecode......they had no world-building tools......they were just one guy with an artistic talent......and ten really cool pictures......
Take a look at our limited graphics again. You may notice that in some cases there are 3 different views of the same character, or they are in a weird "modeling" pose. Thats because these are actually modeled player characters, that you will see in 3D. Not just cool rendered pics. We could do that I suppose, but thats pretty dishonest in my opinion.
As far as world graphics, we could render some awesome landscapes too, but 3D max isnt going to be our game engine. It would'nt be a "real" representation of what the game will look like. We are currently looking into changing our NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with our game engine team, so we can give you gamers some REAL screenshots from the initial builds. I really had no idea how important that was to you folks.
As I cruise the web searching for other mmorpg's, I cant help but notice how many of them can be compared, graphically, to what I would call a mid to high end Ultima Online. Or the many that appear to be using the engine used by Tribes. They are fine, and I have played and loved many of them. But, it's time to move on, and thats what we are doing.
And yes, I am involved with them. No intention of being sneaky, just trying to get some gamers to hit the site, and maybe check the forums and do some constructive criticism. We want you guys to be involved, and be interested. After all, YOU will be playing it, and without YOU, all we have is a bunch of cool grapics.......
Hope to see you all there!
