Forge won't work?!!

I try to forge some items according to the recipe book in chapter 1.
I tried a mace +1 and ironwood, and then armor +1 (+5 AC) and the special holy water but the smith keeps telling me that I have wrong ingredients etc. And when I place my stuff into the forge he tells me that there should be two ingredients bla-bla-bla...
What am I doing wrong? Do I need some special sort of "magic armor" or "magic weapons"? In BG they were special.

If you try to get both items made at the same time, that is a fault.
You can only get 1 item made at the time, so either the mace or amour, and then next time, the last item.
Try placing the mace and ironwood first, and get him to make the mace. (any magical mace should do it, but I think it should be any "generic" magical mace, mace +1, mace +2 etc. )
Also note with armour, that you need a total AC of the descriped in the book, that means base AC + AC bonus should equal the total AC neasecary. (example, total AC of 5 is needed, then you would ei. need an AC of 4 + 1 bonus)

Erhm it should be a magical DIRE mace and the iron wood
if not mistaken

Guys, trust me, I am not a complete moron: of course I DID NOT try to place ALL my stuff at the SAME time. I was able to forge a rapier with dragon blood (75% daze) and a longsword with a diamond (sonic), but not a mace. And, by the way, the longsword I had to buy from the auctionist ( my own longsword +1, with the SAME properties, was rejected) and the rapier was just "generic" loot. Anyway, thanks for suggestions.

Are you trying to two of the same item? You didn't say anything about it but that's the only other thing I can think of.
The game only allows you to make one of each item. If you try to make another, the blacksmith will tell you you have the wrong kind/number of item in the forge, which is kind of stupid. Maybe that's what you're doing wrong.
It shouldn't matter where the items came from, as long as they're magical and if it's armor, that it fits the 'total AC'.

So, you did not trust me, did you?

No, I didn't mean making two items at once, I meant making a, say, Chromatic Breastplate and then trying to make another one.

As a matter of fact, I am in the Chapter II and cannot verify anything, but I guess I screwed up with the armor at the time: perhaps, I used wrong armor. But with the longsword I am pretty sure: for me "any generic" did not work. And no, I did not try to make duplicate. Actually, I even did not make a single copy.
I made a very decent greatsword with fire damage +2 (keeping me warm, he-he) and I look forward to the next chapter since I have accumulated rather cool stuff (I plan to enhance my mithril armor for example). I usually save game when I find a large trapped chest and reload a few times until I have something really good inside this chest. This is a cheap way to get very expensive stuff with very good statistics. Once I have found a helm worth 14,000.
