Ambitions

What did you want to be when you were a kid? Or if you are still a kid, what do you want to do with your life; career or occupation-wise? Are you the type that always knew you wanted to be a doctor, or did you work in a pub for four years before finding a half-useful way to use your qualifications? Please feel free to discuss your ambitions, or ex-ambitions

, or just tell us what you wanted to be when you were little, and what you've turned out as? How did you manage to fulfill your ambitions, or if you didn't, what prevented you?

When I was a kid I wanted to be a Transformer...

Come to think of it, it'd still be pretty cool to be a Transformer, but now I'll settle for a philosopher, author/poet, artist, actor, or even University teacher instead.

When I was a kid....
Well, I clearly remember my sisters life goal was to be a waitress. The closest thing I had to an actual goal was probably to marry a rich man so I could play all day long. I think I assumed a rich man would have a better swingset than my parents.
Now, of course, having firmly honed in on my goals and ambitions while matching them with reality, I want to be a super hero.

I'm probably going to join the RAF or Royal Navy. Best way to pick up chicks, and then you can run:
"Gotta go love! I'm being posted to Uzbekistan!"
@ Viv, nice career choice.
When I was a real kid (3 years ago.

) I wanted to become a games designer. Then I realised that I couldn't code jack.

Nippy: Thanks

I wake up every morning and check for super powers, but so far nothing.

You could always be Bunny Woman @Viv. Can tame even the fiercest fluffy animal, has super hugging powers that immediately render any foe as putty in your hands. Your super-villain rch-enemy could be the evil Dead-dog-T-shirt woman...
I still think being a Transformer would be cool. But so would be being a dragon (or an elf-go elves!), or having awesome psychic powers like Tetsuo from
Akira. I could handle being a Rastafarian too, it wouldn't be so exciting but it would have certain other advantages, and I could live in Jamaica.

whispers to Ode - I think you're allowed to live in Jamaica even if you're not a rasta*
Anyway, Spam down please people - this is a serious thread
I still want to be an artist. I may well be, but I somehow do not have the paranoia - the at-odds-ness with the world...possibly. I am too happy, contented and accepting

When I was really young I wanted to be a veteranarian. Unfortunetly, I realized that line of work needed too much preperation, and besides, I was horrible at biology.
After that I wanted to become an announcer for sports, but I get nervous so that idea has pretty much been scratched aswell, however I still hope to become a sports writer, if not just a nice simple but well payed job will do.

Hmm, I have no idea what I want to do. It's my biggest problem I think - having no ambitions definitely makes you lazier...

Oh, I have ambitions alright, but yet I still am as lazy as I can be. I wait till the last minute because thats the greatest feeling of motivation: If you dont do it now, it will never get done
However, this didnt work for my chemistry project-I never did it-allowing my grade go down from an A- to a B-. That hurt.

When I was a kid, I wanted to become a scientist. The fields varied a lot though - first it was astronomy, then it was paleontology, then archeology, geology, submarine biology, antropology...you name it. Then I became a teen and wanted to be an artist instead, so I started art school and found out I art was lovely as a hobby - not as a profession. After that, I stared to take a great interest in the human brain, and as most of you know, I ended up as a scientist but not in any of the areas I imagined as a kid.

I always wanted to be a pilot whe I was a kid. That dream faded a bit, and was finally killed off when I discovered how stupidly expensive it is to become a comercial pilot.
So instead I decided to get into prgramming, and discovered how boring it was (no offence to any programmers here), so a friend convinced me to try psychology. Got most of the way through that and got offered a job as a computer techie, and haven't looked back.
So now, after 4 years at this job, I'm still happy where I am, and have absolutely no formal training in this field at all!

Since i was old enough to think of a job, i have always wanted to do what my dad does for a living. I am still 20 years down the road planning on doing what he does. Now what does he do? That is a secret

@CM, male gigilo?
I actually had no idea what i wanted to be when i was young, they used to ask us in school what our ideal job was, i stole someone elses idea (accountant) which seemed to appease the head teacher

Well I'm still a kid, and I wanna become any US special forces, notably the SEALs. Either that, marrying a rich woman, or playing pro hockey.

I haven't a clue what I want to do, although I have a general idea. Get rich, and retire after high school.
Find something where I can be actually interested, I hope. The five things that interest me are math, astronomy, politics, philosophy, and computer games. But I really have no life plan, at the moment.

When i was young i wanted to be a mechanical pencil technician
and i would ask all my friends to give me their mechanical pencils so i could fix them......wahhahahha
but then later on i wanted to be a doctor so i could fix bodies instead......wahahahah but then i'm not smart enough to go around cutting bodies.....
so in the end i settled being in the visual arts department.
although i'm not sure if i'd stay here forever.
o well now my ambition is to own a couple of sheep and be a shepherd lie in the grass and look at the beautiful sky. Count the stars at night and wonder if there's an alien looking up at me somewhere whahahaha.

When I was young, I wanted to be a fire truck, we have that one on tape somewhere
In high school, either a bum who just surfed and did other beach related stuff all year or a professor doing research in some secret, high tech institute. That of course depended on my attitude during the day.
I'm happy being a student, and wouldn't mind becoming a programmer once I get over my hatred of those programming tools and editors.
EDIT- At one stage I did wonder whether it was possible to devise a formula so that I would win the lottery every few years, meaning that I wouldn't have to work. Its one of my little hobbies you could say

Chose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.
