Neverwinter vs Morrowind

Sorry mods, I couldn't quite decide which forums this should go in, so feel free to move it if its innappropriate...anyway:

I ran into quite a sum of unexpected money recently, and immediately splashed out on Warcraft III. My bank is still very full though, and I now wonder; Should I buy:

1)Neverwinter Nights
2)Morrowind
3)Something impromptu and romantic for the missus :) .

?

Please lets have reasons for why you prefer one game over the other, or why you reckon I shouldn't get either.

BTW - WC3 is quality, but if you've got an RTS already then don't bother...it doesn't really bring anything new...and the roleplaying elements are a bit gimmicky...

There probably isn't an entierly appropriate forum to move this to (maybe RPG discussion) so i am leaving it here unless anyone suggests otherwise.

Personally i would chose Morrowind, some people didn't enjoy it and i can certainly see why, but the exploration element is quite a lot of fun once one gets used to it.

The game isn't immediate like BG2 one spends a great deal of their time walking through wilderness. The tasks are sometimes very difficult to accomplish due to really vague directions, plus there are some annoying monsters.

I have been playing Morrowind nearly every day since i purchased a copy, the sheer breadth of time that can be spent in Morrowind is amazing.

The graphics are okay but not amazing, the sound is a dissapointment and the game quite often chugs along unless you have all the new drivers etc for your machine.

Not really that indepth a review but i hope it gives you some idea what to expect.

I'd say number three, but that's just because I'm an (alleged) romantic. ;) :o

IMO it should be allowable to discuss games on SYM too, given that people don't mind having the conversation turn to spam at some point...

You could buy an impromptu and romantic copy of Morrowind for the missus? :D

People are quite often discussing games on SYM, I don't see why the thread shouldn't stay.

Something romatic for the missus...

..otherwise you'll have LOTS of time to play once she's left... ;)

I bought a copy of NWN and I'm having alot of fun with it. The single player campaign is very combat oriented and not so good on the interaction side of things, but I'd say it's worth getting. Haven't tried Morrowind yet.

Buy something romantic for your wife. Computer games have nowhere near the thrill of genuine intimacy. :)

Or in this case, his girlfriend.
I'd hope Frogus isn't married at age 14...

Well, if he is only 14 he should buy one of the games. He has the rest of his life to waste on romance. (Did I say waste? I meant spend, that's it, spend) :D

@McBane....I recall an austrian saying: "Most cynics are just desillusioned (sp?) romantics."
(I hope I got the translation right  ).

So when did you lose your illusions ? ;)

No worries,

Beldin

Exactly. He didn't say he was 14, and he did say "missus." Do you have an inside track on which is an accurate statement, @Ode? :D :p ;)

I think I lost my "illusion" when I was 15, but that is not the issue here.. :D

I am interested in the recommendations, as I am currently looking at buying either Warcraft 3, NWN, or Morrowind.

Sorry all - read 'girlfriend' for 'missus'. I am not married at age 14  . *thinks* have we had a discussion about arranged marriage before? Thread idea...anyway:

I take back what I said about the roleplaying elements in Warcraft being gimmicky - Even though the voice acting is absolutely appalling, and the speaking animation makes the people look like badly-dubbed kung-fu movie villains and the plot starts out looking like the worst type of cliched gibberish to come out of an amateur fantasy writer's little brother, it gets better. Interestingly enough as well, you really do have to play an evil char. You actually have to bad stuff (even though fairly cliched bad stuff), so a Lawful Good D&D player like me felt really guilty :( . For the same reason though, if you like role-playing evil, it's one of the first games I've tried where you really do...

As for the actual gaming, there aren't enough units or buildings (there's quite a few, but not as many as in AoE2 for example), and the combat's a bit hack'n'slash. I reckon it'll get more strategic once I get used to it though...

As for Morrowind and NwN, do you have a party in them, or are you solo? How's the NPC interaction? How varied are the characters you can create?

BTW unrelated - what does MMORPG stand for?

Multiplayer on WC3 is lacking since there are very few resources lying around. Plus it is quite boring.

Morrowind you have no party, just the one person, NPC interaction is quite poor IMO, basically every character has an opinion of you which they then judge you from, sounds like a decent system, doesn't quite work in practice, and it doesn't alter that much in game since you can pretty much bribe them if needs be ;) Character creation lets you do pretty much anything you want, which is cool :)

Massive(ly) Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (i think)

Maybe so, but why refer to your girlfriend as "the missus?" Hell, I've been married for a dozen years, and I don't refer to my wife as "the missus." Do you feel safer this way, or older, perhaps? Come clean, @Frogus! We are your friends. You can share with us. :D ;)

(Btw, if she's your girlfriend, I would underline and italicize spending the money on her. -But then, come to think of it, I would do that whether you were married, or not. A good, honest, trusting, hedonistic relationship is to be thoroughly prized, and never taken for granted . )
