This thread is for all of us who feel intimidated by the intelligentia showing off their cultural sophistication in a similarly named thread.

Personally, I like "The Matrix" even though I know I shouldn't. It's shallow, it as a rather silly J. Christ symbolism and Kanoe in the lead, etc etc. I still found it rather entertaining.

The latest song by Eminem is another example. I don't much approve of the misogynistic opportunist, but some of his music is quite good.

Finally, "Independence day". It's a hilarious comedy (I think) where the nationalistic overtones are so over the top you can't help but laugh. I was intriqued by this at the time, and I used to wonder if they were serious or not.

I love all those totally lame and retarded 80's movies. The dumber they are, the better I like them. I used to live for USA's Up All Night, it was the ony time I could see most of these things.

My list is long and embarassing.

First is Anime - And now im not talking about GitS or such but those ridiculous series with a number of heroes running around saving the world or things like shoujo kakumei Utena.

Fantasy movies - I know not a single good one exist, still I see whatever I can get in this genre.

Hongkong action - the more ridicolous the better, my favourite being Swordsman and similar.

Musicals - Even bad ones, if they sing cheesy songs I probably enjoy it.

About music I feel less embarassed since most people dosnt expect music to have to have a message to be good. But I have this thing for really pretentious things. Sopor Aeternus being a good example but I doubt many know about them...

The wizard of Oz - While you might think this goes under musical this movie in particular holds a special place in my heart decpite being silly. And no, my nick has nothing to do with it.

SF series - Like LEXX or Andromeda, as long as I get to see androids, dead assasins or big AIs im happy.

Im sure there are more examples but I can figure them out right now. I will fill in as they pop into mind.

Everybody knows the movie "Battlefield Earth", right?

Well, I thought that movie was hilarious because it was so mediocre. It was the biggest bomb in the box office sinse Waterworld or The Postman and it is a classic because it was just plain bad.

So why have I watched the movie? And why do others watch the movie? Because it cant get much more corny, pathetic, wrong than the movie. Everyone watches it because it is so bad.

Phew, I thought I might end up sticking my neck out all on my own

@BS: I can watch almost any movie and find it entertaining in some way - well, except for some of the all-to-predictable hollywood productions, where you can tell the whole storyline by looking at the title... One movie I liked in the 80's was "First Blood". Rather embarrasing, my wife rolls her eyes and ask herself why she married me...

I havnt seen it unfortunatly. Another one I like is Marry Poppins though.

Anything that is unintentionally funny could also apply very well to this thread. Like that sitcom that was called Manimal, or something to that affect. Hilarious, but it wasnt meant to be a comedy. It was trying to be serious.

The Goon Show/ Bathroom humor, silly plays on words, characters who are self-acknowledged morons, all of it--love the stuff.

Donovan. That's right, the original 60's rock 'n roll hippie/flower child! I still like his music.

Laurel and Hardy/ Two of the dumbest, sweetest guys in the world falling over themselves as they reach the heights of failure. I especially enjoy their late silent films, but something like Way Out West will still crack me constantly.

Cyrano de Bergerac. Sure, it's sentimental as hell, an old-fashioned play with a star-crossed hero and a wonderful heroine, and I end up crying, same as my wife. Ya gotta problem wit' dat?

The Keystone Kops. Complete chaos, with pie-throwing. Lowbrow humor that has me in gales of laughter.

West Side Story. Unabashedly romantic, idealistic, and out-of-date. I'm a sucker for it.

Scheherazde. Rimsky-Korsakov is laughed at condescendingly by the Knowledgeable Critics all the time; always has been. I'll listen to his music whenever I can, and I love this exotic, emotional orchestral suite.[/b]

90's Gangsta rap - made by horrible people. The lyrics are often promoting and glorifying drugs and violence, as well as being misogynistic and sometimes racist. But it was great dance music

Computer games - I don't play many games, but so far none of my colleagues and few of my friends have any understanding for my little hobby, especially not my love for Diablo II, which I've played for at least 10 times the amount of time I played the BG-series.

Simple adrenaline thrills - going very fast with a car, boat or even mountainbike, jetskiing, skydiving, that kind of unsophisticated entertainment just by making my body release adrenaline.

Yes, you're right. Unfortunately, I've got this male condition in which my hips are still attached to my waist and legs in a direct line, so that I can't really do the kinds of things most women (including my wife) can, when they dance. I hazard a guess that most men cannot. Well, Michael Jackson can, but there is good reason to suspect that his DNA comes from aliens.

I do what I can with hip-shaking Salsa, which is passe everywhere except in Latin America and our household. My wife helps me, but I think that if any right-thinking Latino were to see me attempting to dance to Tito Puente he'd take up polkas, instead.

I have another little disturbing sercret to reveal. I liked counting with aegis. As some kind of concept art here in sym I thought it was quite good.

I like 80's hair metal. laugh as you will, I feel no shame.

I like some 80's music so I wont laugh. Though I dont like the hair bands a whole lot. I do like the new wave portion of the 80's.

Super Mario World, the first game made for the old Super Nintendo. Horribly cutesy, ridiculously easy, and utterly charming, The one game with Yoshis that wasn't plain irritating.

The Weatherwoman. One of the cheesiest, strangest movies I have ever seen. Weird, but not predictably weird in style like Monty Python etc, this was Japanese-style weird. I love it.

Idle Hands. I admit how stupid this movie is, but I just can't resist a movie in which the first response to danger the hero has is to frantically try to get stoned.

Bill and Ted excelent / bogus adventure Strange movies... but I love'em! The part where they see capt. Kirk climb a rock on a strange planet, and later they climb it. Very good!

The blue screen of death Microsoft claim that they solved this problem. But IMO they just deleted the blue screen. So now when the pc freezes, nothing happends. In the old days there would be the blue screen, and you knew you had to reboot. Now you keep on hoping something will work...

at number one ... Robot Wars I love it.

Ummm...something I like but shouldn't...I also have a thing for NWA etc @CE, but am not all that ashamed of it.. @Dot, I am also a closet Musical junkie, and I secretly suspect that more SYMians than you would like to have though are too (georgi's sig anyone?). Although this one kinda encroaches on Musical territory, I will say it anyway:

The movies that I personally own on video are: The Godfather I, II and III, Bladerunner, The Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver and Beauty and the Beast. I know all the lyrics to Gaston's song in the pub...as well as most of the script
But how can you resist 'Take all the booty you can find...but remember: the Beast is mine!'? Ohh he he I love it...
