I've played the game before, but then I had the "mighty" staff of magi, so never had a problem stealing the eggs.
So this time I DON'T have the staff of magi and seem to have a little problem.
I cast Mass invisibility on my party and walked into the temple, let Jan Jansen run to the room, swap the eggs, drink a potion of invisibility, and run back.
However, the egg guards noticed EVERYTIME Jan walk by them! And then the whole city turned hostile...
Somebody please help me

I had the same problem. but if you're doing that you're leaving the city anyway right? The Drow ain't that tough, kill em all!!

go with the whole party to the egg room and swap the eggs. I've done this every time and the only guards who gets hostile are the ones just outside the room. just make sure that the other guards doesn't becomes visible, or they'll join the fight also...

I kill both gaurds before going in the room everytime and ive never had trouble with the drow going hostile.. odd

Have your holy person (Jaheira, Anomen, Viconia, Aerie) Cast Sanctuary. Simply walk in the room, switch the eggs, walk out. Simple.

I've had mixed results even with Sanctuary. I think the key is not to let anyone in the Temple see ANY of your characters.

But even if you have to kill a couple of Egg Guards, don't sweat it. You can still return the eggs (or the fake eggs) to Phaere and go through with the summoning ceremony.

Actually, I like to break out of character momentarily so that I can do something else that is IN character. Namely, I give the real eggs to Phaere, just so I can stop her from giving them to the Demon Lord. That's the only way that you can attack and kill the Demon Lord, and I don't want to pass up the chance to do that.

I thought you could also kill the Demon Lord after he kills Phaere and the Matron Mother. When he asks if anyone does have the real eggs, and you *don't* remain silent, doesn't he attack then? Hmm...

Forgive me for only reading the original question, but here's my answer. Just kill them. It's not like it's a tough battle 5-6 golems and a bunch of drow. Just kill 'em all... you're leaving anyway. And if the whole city turns hostile you're doing something wrong. When I did the switch only the golems and the two guards at the door turned hostile.

my way worked

i left my party somewhere between te main hall and the First group of guards, so they couldn´t see me.

the i got my monk (main character) hidden in shadows, i entered the room, swithed the eggs, killed the golems with my fist, then i killed the two guardians by entrance of the room.

then i passed by the first group of guards and they said "farewell", in drow

This bug came about from the TOB expansion. There's a patch for it at Baldurdash in the TOB bugfixes section.

I got by it by backstabbing the two guards at the door. but I guess Mr Flipple hit the point, it's a TOB bug. I do have TOB installed and not any patches.
Another question, what does the Demon give you when you tithe the real eggs? I got that item and matron mother's loot mixed together. Is it the Gorgon Plate? It's not very a very good armor btw.

the game is quite scripted at this point...

the easy way is to whack the two egg guards...tehy are set with 5 hp or so, so its easy to use good weapons and kill them, bash teh golems, and do the switch...

tithe-ing the real eggs should get you a halberd, i think black mist, or some such...also you can ask it for the way out...

but this option is tied to alignment or rep....i never got with neutral or 20 rep...

but you are meant to kill the guards...

Yes, but **shudders** Who would want to get on the Silver Dragons bad side, when she isn't hostile as is?

Ask the Deomon for a way out then, User...chicken.

But, if your alignment calls for it...Then get RPing!

swap eggs, sanctuary & haste

Take all your members up to the last gate & quickly kill the 2 guards.
Cast sanctuary & haste on 1 character & run in
and swap the eggs.
Then have the group get out of the Temple as fast as possible

aqua, any dragon in the game is fair meat, and quite frankly, the silver has one good piece of loot...blood....

hey, if i had valen, do ya think she would try to grab the blood for a bite to drink???

so if valen does not grab blood for a snack, use to upgrade human flesh to flesh armor....

give to viccy, and with shield of lost, ring of gaxx, and her native drow magic ressit, can get her at high 90% resist to magic, making her a major asset to any party...

in fact, if you are sleeping with her, youre better off not saying nice things to her to not change her alignment...cause the flesh only fits on evil characters...

but yeah, i sorta think the asking for a way out is chicken....

but ya know, the halberd you can get from demon is kinda sucky...dragon breath you get near the entrance is way better,,,

but yeah, after whacking all the draongs in soa, tob, and sola mod, silver is by far the worst...

From my experience you should not let the egg guards see your main character. If an NPC sneaks in, the egg guards will run off screen and blame your main character at the entrance, no matter what. So I'd kill the egg guards w/ everyone else off the screen (luckily my main character was a stalker when I tried this, too easy).
