resistances over 100%

I was wondering about an item setup for my Caliver Thorn that would make his fire resist. 170%, will 70% of fire damage done to me heal, or will it just go away

I think it will heal u. It should, but might not have been implemented correctly. Worst case scenario u won't be damaged by it, and give some fire resitant gear to someone else.

It does heal you and a rather effective way of healing, if you find somewhere like in the shadow dungeons where you have fire damage done to you.

The highest you can get is 127%.

well, in theory at any rate, stacked armors of faith can give you 127 in blunt edged, etc and make you heal if hit by weapons, but ive never seen it work....
try this...
in a really bad situation, have sorc cast prot from energy and prot from elements on each party member...(balderdash patch will not allow you to stack either spell, so you have to cast both to get 110% resist to fire) and then have your mages set up triple inc clouds using chain contingecy, and move in for the kill...i mean stacked inc clouds will kill any non immune to fire creatuers very very fast...might make ascention finals easy, no???
but sola eclipse, that didnt work since teh eclipse party continually casts zosa, (zone of sweet air) and still slaughtered my party...grrrr......
this does make hell a pushover...

ah, but take the 20% base, that Calivers get, + 50% from red dragon chain, + 80% from ring of fire resistance times 2, + thew 20% in hell= 170%, but it will only go up to 127... boohoo, oh well, I guess minsc can get another boost to resistance....
