Okay, so I finished exploring the "Creator´s" (That ancient race whose seemingly last members dwell below the troll caves off the east road) catacombs and brought the book to the Jax the archeologist. Curiously, this time the "Turn-in-the-item-so-you´ll-get-yer-reward" text options included one which would allow me to keep the book.
So my question is, does keeping the tome make any difference regarding a possible future quest? Or would it just turn out to be another deleted item as soon as I hit Ch3?

All I can tell you is that I have not found a use for that book so I just gave it to him and took the money. It is entirely possible that someone else might want it though.

Its possible you might find a buyer for it elsewhere, just like the items for the tombs quest in chapter 1.

Thanks a lot guys. I thought about keeping it, but chose to accept the 1k gp he offers if you bring that up lol thats 250gp more than if succesfully persuaded
