BG2 Installation Trouble

I already posted this in the BG2 forum... figured I may as well post it here too...

Just reinstalled Win98, and I'm trying to install BG2, but when I click on install I get an error window saying
"Internal Failure
Error Number: 0x80040707
Description:"

It does go into setup, but when it gets to where you choose the kind of setup, there are no options there, and then it crashes. Is my CD screwed? It was fine last week when I was playing the game...

Thanks for any help

Does the file sizes on the cd match those in the attachment?

How do I get it to display the exact size? It is displaying the size in KB currently... they look about the same though.

Either select a file and press ALT+ENTER or type DIR at the command prompt.

Ok...

No.
baldur.exe is 3,256,832
setup.inx is 143,366
readme.txt is 51,726

... does that mean my CD is trashed? :(

Bad news, I think Dottie might be onto something here. The file most likely causing the error is setup.inx, which is part of the installation script. I have the Asia-Pacific version of the game (which is identical to the US/Europe version) and setup.inx should be 144,035 bytes.

Have you checked the surface of the disk for scratches?

That the CD is ruined would certianly be my guess too. Cant be 100% sure though.

However it seems BG2 will install fine if you just copy the CD to your hardrive and overwirte the corrupted files with correct versions. :) I havnt tried to install the whole game this way though, I only started the installation. So it might not work.

Ah, one of those unexplainable "I don't feel like working today" errors. Love those.
