Does anyone know the story behind the word "Redneck"? What is it about red necks that gives this phrase it's meaning? What is the origin of this now-common phrase?

Maybe they all used to be redheads with hairy backs????

Actually, I do know. They're all farm workers, who spend most of their time in the fields, bending over, and so were extremely prone to getting sunburn, on their necks in particular.

redneck Also know as Bloodstalker ( ) this breed works out in the open underneath the sun gaining burns to the back of the neck. Common alcoholics and hunters, they have large trucks and big guns. A common hunting call is "Come on mama! I'm gonna git me a bear!"

It's not just farmers; rednecks are usually blue-collar folks who work outside (road crews, construction workers, etc.) and are generally considered lacking in social graces, education and sophistication.

An example of redneck foreplay: "Get in the truck!"

80% of all fatal car accidents throughout the world end with the words "Oh ****", however a worrying statistic has been discovered 95% of all rednecks killed in car accidents end their lives with the words "Here hold my beer, watch this it is cool"

where i come from. they do!.... the only difference is, that they do not live in cabins or trailers.. but they are fishermen

LOL, theres a fine line between hill billy and rednecks. Rednecks are usually ultra conservative, inbred, have mullets, eat roadkill and lack social grace.
