Save Game Recovery

AHHH! I lost my game to windoze error. I recovered the fragmented file000.chk files. Using notepad I Figured out which ones were the .sav, .gam and .map, but I still have other files that relate to the game. I believe they are parts of the other files. Anyone know how to put them all together again??? I am too in depth to want to start over again? HELP ME PLEASE.

After renaming the .chk files into their own dir in the mpsave folder named something like 00000004-recover (dunno the exact name as I am at work now) I put in the other files, copied a baldur.bmp from another save game. I can see the game, but the game crashes I go to load it. Using Shadow Keeper I can also see it, but I get an error about not seeing the character affections. I tried pasteing bits of the other files in to the baldur.gam file, and then I get an error that says Charecter somethings don't match game header. I'll post the exact errors when I get home. Is there anyway I can view these files that don't look like jibberish? Do I need C++ or something?

 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lowly,

You can post your query on Tech Support Forum. I believe there you would find more people to assist you with that problem.

Good luck! :)

The files present in every savegame are:
  • Baldur.bmp - screenshot of your current party in its current location - you need the one that belongs to this game
  • Baldur.gam - contains party, global, and journal info
  • Baldur.sav - contains info about every area you have visited, as well as store info
  • Worldmap.wmp - contains Worldmap info
  • Portrt0.bmp - the portrait of your protaganist
If you have more than one character in your party, then there will also be:
  • Portrt1.bmp - the portrait of the 2nd party member
  • Portrt2.bmp - the portrait of the 3rd party member
  • Portrt3.bmp - the portrait of the 4th party member
  • Portrt4.bmp - the portrait of the 5th party member
  • Portrt5.bmp - the portrait of the 6th party member
The .bmp files can be viewed with Paint Shop or similar program.
