XP Hoarding

When I installed the expansion and played the first "dungeon", I got about two or three levels for EACH character! I killed the King(bhaalspawn) and recieved enough XP for almost another level!

I had Imoen, main character(fighter/mage/theif), Keldorn, Minsc, Jahera, and Aeire. The main character has to divide his XP by three, Jahera and Aerie by two, and I STILL got almost two levels.

It was this way with EVERY quest and every level. I almost got the XP max level just by going through the normal game, accepting most of the quests.

To me, there was NO roleplaying aspect of this game, just getting XP and getting as high of a level as possible.
The item building was a bit cheesy too.....

Well since there isnt much oppertunity for diverging from the story line in ToB as opposed to SoA and BG1, it would HAVE to be possible to reach max level just by doing the normal quests.

Other then the mini quest that takes all of ten seconds (but way to much walking with those damn fireballs coming in) in Saradush and Watchers Keep, I cant think of a single "side-quest" in ToB actually.

You know, you're right about there not being may quests in it.

It didn't really bring any other aspects to the game, just collecting more items and more XP.

I didn't have ONE problem getting through any of the chapters. I didn't even need to use the walkthru. I read the walk thru after I finsihed the game, and I didn't miss much at all....maybe one or two items that could have fetched me about 2000gp. YIPPIE!

But I'm not bitter. I try to get the most out of every game I play, so I finished it, but then went back, added some more pressing foe's, such as a demi-lich and a dragon or two to make the boss a little bit harder.

I agree somewhat. I reloaded twice (once cause Viconia turned to stone) my first time through ToB and didnt miss anything except like one of the upgraded items because I sold it at Watchers Keep when I got it (not knowing it could be upgraded) and didnt feel like going back to get it (one of the swords, Foebane I think)

But, ToBs main point was just to advance the story to its final conclusion. I mean you can only have so many super oppenents to fight, so a full game might not have been plausible and I think they were ready to wrap the series up. I was ok with it, glad at least I got to see the end. But it was more like a sigh of relief then an actual climax.
