I have a bunch of documents that I need to import into a computer for editing. They are policies and procedures manuals and instead of paying a temp to type them into a word processing program, I'd like to scan them in, then have some software convert the scanned documents to a MS Word or WordPerfect document so I can make changes. I have a scanner, but don't have the character-recognition software to convert them to a program. Do any of you know of software which will do this for me?
Thanks in advance.

The software that came with it was mostly photo editing and the scanner drivers. None of it had optical character recognition capability.

Omnipage Pro is a very good program for OCR. As Mr Sleep said, most scanners come with some form of OCR software, usually either Omnipage LE or Textbridge.
