i'll sell you my soul house dog and first born child for the low annual price of, MORROWIND BETA! lol j/k i know they make you sign your soul over to them to get ur hands on that thing and well my soul is hardly a replacement for urs, trust me, you don't want it heh

anyhow was just wanting to hear a little bit about morrowind to tide me over untill it's released (i and many others have been checking every preview review screenshot and text article with the word morrowind related to it - another forum i'm on had a 1400 post threat about the release of morrowind)

but i was wondering, when you first start out are you really weak compared to everything around you or about the right ammount you'd expect from an RPG? also would it be possible to without fighting just start running, and running and running from 1 place to well the next place you run into without aiming for a specific destination without getting ur block knocked off, or would you pass out about 5 minutes in and see a faint flash of 30 monsters who have been chasing you for a mile cracking ur skull open before you take the everlasting nap? and is the ability to steal things and such actually a posibility without losing ur arm before you're level god with rank of godlier? though i don't expect it to be *easy* i just mean a viable *choice* if that's how you wanna do it heh

but anyhow i've wasted MORE than too much of your time already, and can't believe you even read this far! Hell i wouldn't have, not from a loon like me.

And love the site! it freegin rocks, i've been checkin it weekly ever since i happened upon it back in some lost times in that terrible game pools of radiance *shudder*

If you're in the US, you should be able to buy it by Friday, if not sooner.

When you start out, you're in a fairly safe general area. It's best to purchase a reasonably good basic weapon and simple armor, then look for large, neighborhood insects, rats and the like (there's one creature like a segmented worm with a mouth--can't remember the name, but it's perfect for early growth). Pelagiad and Balmora are pretty safe destinations. I wouldn't enter any dungeons just yet. ;)

I strongly suspect, based on present experience, that general randomized monsters on the terrain generate to match your level. At least, that's the way it seemed to me recently when I took back a fifth level character to his early stomping grounds. There were entirely new monsters lolling about of much greater difficulty.

One other word of advice: steal all you want, but remember that 1) don't let yourself get caught, or you're doomed, and 2) if you ever are caught later and hauled before a magistrate, everything you ever stole will come to light and be removed from your inventory, and charged against your current purse and goods.

It's amazing, the sheer amount of stuff over time that you can steal. Most of it is cheap goods, especially in the crates and barrels that act as surplus next to homes and businesses--like plates, cheap herbs (which can still come in handy), etc. But indoors you can find and acquire, if you're careful, potent potions that temporarily raise endurance or strength; and if you time your shoplifting correctly, you can even steal a complete set of alchemical equipment, decent pieces of armor, and reasonably enchanted, basic weapons.

That's not to say Morrowind is a Monty Haul, like the later Might and Magics. What may seem like a bonanza to a newcomer is actually pretty slight for an advanced character; and getting a really nice alchemical set doesn't mean you either know the ingredients to potions, or have the skill necessary to successfully produce them. But it's a start. :D

Of course, a really righteous character would never steal, even after the provocation of being enslaved, then released among a bunch of people who treat you as anything from suspicious to vermin. That would make a nice roleplayinig challenge, and with the House Reldoran, a full career.

well i think it's pretty obvious by now that an upright in virtue charachter aint my exact aim hehe more of an independent, basically exactly what the morag tung appears to be asking for in role playing style, yet tough enough to crack the skulls of most of them limber twig-armed thiefly sorts

"Finally, the Argonians are immune to poisons and disease and are the fastest race in the game. They can outrun anything."
-EXACTLY why i chose the argonion, for a lone gunmen being able to move quickly enough to get in and out before getting caught is of much importance, also the ability to retreat without getting caught if need be, which that quote makes me pretty sure i'll be able to do heh
