small party xp problem

In my opinion, baldur's gate is a great game :D -the only thing that makes me dislike it is that it was designed for 6-person parties and playing a party of two or soloing through the whole game is pointless because you reach extremely high levels in the early stages of the game. At that point your character is TOO powerful for that stage and/or he reached the maximum level and develops no more.

Here's my attempt to make the game small party compatible, I edited the xp tables, so a solo character will have to get an amount of xp equaling to fighter_xp*6 and a character in a two person party to fighter_xp*3. I edited only the xp needed to level after level 8 to avoid problems on character creation or on importing from bg1.

the zip file includes 4 files: XPLEVEL.2DA.1 ; XPLEVEL.2DA.2 XPLEVEL.2DA.BAK ; XPCAP.2DA. -The first two files are the xp tables for 2 and 1 person parties, remove the .1 OR .2 from the filename and place it into your override folder. The third file is a backup of the original xp table, in case forgot to backup your file. The last file is a part of the xp cap remover which must be installed in order to make the xp tables work correctly.

Also, I'd really appreciate your help in answering some simple questions: 1. the amount of total xp in the end of soa/tob(?) ; 2. the number of party members at that point and the level of every party member (?); -I need this info for correcting the xp tables in case it would be needed and building the tables for 3,4,5-person parties. - thanx in advance;

Hello Xan deVir

I downloaded the three files and couldn't get pass the dungeon, my game crashed midway through a level up.

I have the xp cap remover on as well as several mods and Baldurdash patches. Silly of me to ask here, have I done something wrong or are there compatibility issues? A readme of sorts would be helpful.

Thanks.

what was the exact error you got, or the game *just* crushed? about the compatibility stuff, I think that tob must be installed and it should work /w baldurdash patches.
and how did you manage to level in the dungeon? -it's 1500000 xp for level 9 [XPLEVEL.2DA.1] and 750000 xp [XPLEVEL.2DA.2] if you used CLUA... I'll find out how to use it and will test it too.

Yes, I did use SK to level up and I'm soloing with a custom made Sorc character named BUN BUN that User Unfriendly zipped in this forum. It just hanged without any message and I have to do CTRL ALT DEL to reboot.

Maybe I should try with an in-game made character.

Will let you know.

Cheers.

I've just finished testing the xp files with my 2 custom kits, used CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("XXXXXXX") to level them up by adding 1M xp every time. Everything went smoothly, without any crashes nor bugs :)
...I have no idea why it didn't work for you  , maybe the game crashed from different reasons and will work on your second try, I hope so anyway...

Hi Xan,

Follow up:

I have restarted a fresh game and so far no crashes. Even use SK to level up; no probs.

I am not sure what caused the freeze, could be the memory or just my laptop acting up.

Apologies for the false alarm.
