ICQ Problem, Help Required (NO SPAM!)

After a long painfull reinstall and surviving for several weeks, I have finally decide to install my ICQ. Due instability of ICQ 2001 I decided to install ICQ 2000. But sadly after I've completed the installation and try to send a message, the program stop responding. Most annoying thing is when I try to rerun the program, aparently my message was sent, and I receive a reply - but when the message window open the program stop responding again.

I then tried the ICQ 2001 and the result is the same - ICQ stop responding when the message window pop-up. This thing never happen to me before and I found this problem very frustating.

My PC currently have Win98 1st Edition installed as OS. I would appreciate any suggestions to rectify this problem. :)

Side Note :
@Mods : I post the topic on SYM - not on Tech Support Forum since I don't think It's related with gaming. But I'll leave the decission to you - should you prefer this topic on Tech Forum anyway :)
@Weasel : Sorry for not replying your message, matey. As U can see I've got more probs on my PC again  :(

I think there's a 2002 version of ICQ now, you could try that? :)

My advice would be to forego ICQ completly, and move to MSN. It is a much more stable instant messenger, and not as annoying as ICQ is, but thats MHO.

No need to choose.... :) Since some of my friends are using MSN, others ICQ or Yahoo I've installed "Trillian" - and it works well for me.

In Trillian you're able to use MSN, AOL, Yahoo!, IRC and ICQ simultaneously (sp?) - AND there are NO spyware or adware plugins. It's completely free... (sorry if I sound like a commercial, but I really think it's better than each of the IM-programs is... and I've tried them all. ) ;)

No worries,

Beldin

I've got MSN. MSN likes to randomly crash, even when it's not running.

@Beldin : Thanks ! I'll try and download it tonite :) Out of curiousity, can it import the ICQ & Yahoo database (I mean the contact lists) ?

Comments on MSN messenger : I personally never like Micro**** product. But since most progs runs on Micro**** Windows system, I'm stuck with Win 98 1st edition, why not the Win98 SE ? Because I've tried it and when apply the shut down patch it's not working

It imported the ICQ and MSN lists without a glitch - with Yahoo I've never tried importing since I had Trillian BEFORE a friend of mine appeared with his Yahoo "adress"..

I like it mostly because you don't have to install any other IM client software/spyware...but maybe I'm just paranoid... ;)

No worries,

Do you have the latest version. I must admit its a bit like the lottery. The old one works fine, then you upgrade to a shocking one that just keeps crashing. The next version then works fine and the cycle continues.
