now that spring is here, I am going to grow a bonzai tree.
However, I feel like a bit of a cad doing so and yet not knowing anything about zen or the art of bonzaiery...
Can anyone help me?
What principles does a tree need to live up to ( I know about the spacial proportions etc...)?
What's the philosophy behing bonzai trees?

Ah spring, my favourite season.
I have five bonsais sitting on my window ledge and I know nothing about Zen, so you are in good company.
Then again maybe not.
Seriously, I have a green thumb and don't have a garden, hence bonsai. You can read all about the
history here.
As for principles, please allow me to quote an extract:
"A true bonsai lover will take time to care for and examine his/her trees. This will allow him/her to experience a new rhythm of the seasons. It will also create an invaluable outlet for creativity as they shape their tress. Cultivating a bonsai tree requires some care and attention, but as a reward it brings tranquility to the mind, a feeling of being refreshed and, inner peace. Harmony." (Such as it is)

I had a bonsai tree once, but I killed it
I'd like to have another one though, so this thread will be good for me too.
Just so this post isn't completely spam-ated, here is a
website for bonsai. Enjoy

You can order a bonsai starter kit or a catalogue from
Kabukibonsai in North England.
