Theives?!

I have been playing about with theives alot recently. I think there dual class and multis are fun... now Im not sure but so far, ive messed about with few kinds of chars/strats I really liked one that dont involve the ye olde tried and tested boring old theif mage (my most sincere and heartfelt apologies to imoen nalia and jan, but aside from jan you are all a bit boring..)

Assasin dualed to fighter at lvl 13
I dont know if this is common knowledge but this guy rocks! He gave me a good reason to memorize lots of Improved invisibility spells. Casting it and getting behind something, using smite and then backstabing litteraly destroyed most things + you get a uses of poison weapon, which is better than nothing when all those ww and greater ww have run out also gets that assasins +1 hit and damage
Cleric theif
I though this guy was a dud, then I used rightous magic and backstab + use any item lets him cast spell triggers from scrolls and cram em with nasty cleric spells
One mage, many assasins... I multiplayer party with one mage and lots of theives i played through tob with, mass invisibility followed by lots of backstabbing

Ive never been big on theives but recently I have seen the light, or rather the shadows. If anyone has any tips or cool duals/ multis for theives pls let me know

Thief-any dual/multi is just so powerful! The possibilities are endless.

Without taking ideas from anyone, there is a thought-provoking thread by Dazzo concerning Assasin + use any item + set traps that you might find useful.

Also, there is a gold mine of wonderful information to be had by doing a search on Thieves (at the risk of stating the obvious, one of the buttons on the top right corner).

Happy searching and welcome to the club!

The most fun class I have played so far has been Elven Fighter/Thief. I should try single class thief sometime.
How about Swashbuckler? That guy is basically a fighter with all the thief skill. Well.. almost. Missing backstab hurts, but he can be a front line fighter with all the special thief skill.. hmm spike trap... yummy..
Swashbuckler gets bonus to AC and hit/damage every five levels. Also, he gets to specialize in thief weapon and can put three points on two weapon style.
With Use Any Item, he can use mont clock, balduran helm, and gaunt of ext spec.
I should check what kind of THAC0 Elven swash gets with Angurvadal. :D

I played both a Swashbuckler and an Assasin, and really, they both rock.
Swashbuckler: actually he was better than my fighters, if your not looking at the HP. His AC was like -24, and he hits for +- 30 wich was very nice with whirlwind attack.

Now, the Assasin: His backstabs ROCK, and so does poison weapon. Too bad he only gets 15 points to spend in his skills every level. I never really used Assasinate, cause it only lasts 1 round, and it was my first party through both SoA and ToB, so I didnt know the game very well and had bad THAC0, but if your THAC0 is good, im sure its a very powerfull ability

Thief/illusionists are fun. :) Yes, I know that Jan is one, and he's excellent, but if you make your own, you can do away with Hiding in Shadows and concentrate on Traps, while substituting Invisibility for those times when you'd rather be alone in a crowd. ;)

An assassin backstabbing with the Staff of the Ram is almost cheesy - I let mine handle a lot of the areas solo. Assassinate works best if you first Hide in Shadows (you actually get a +4 bonus to hit then). I didn't use it much, however.

Fighter theives r cool, they can use carsomyr or purifier.. also lots of other cool stuff

I found my swashbuckler was really killing it when I took a few black blade scrolls around with him casting em with use any item and maybe some stone skin scrolls or tensers transformation, heck its all good

Btw... Try backstabbing with staff of the magi, doesnt sound like much but alls you gotta do is equip another weapon then you can switch back to staff, become invisible for unlimited stabs its an easy way to kill the big bad demi lich couse his imprisonment gets canceled when you go invisible
