the fuzzy wuzzy pet thread got me going, so i decided to write a separate area for this matter.

here it goes:
why the hell can i not buy my dog a seat on an airplane? some screaming, crying, pooping, pissing, whiny ass kid can ride in a plane and annoy every living soul and the dead ones for that matter. but my dog who would just sit there and would probably actually help calm people down around him, is not allowed. if he were small enough he could go as my carry on, but i would be fully willing to buy him his own ticket if i could.

god it just pisses me off.

thoughts on this, or other reasons why pets are better than children. or why children should be put in kennels and put under the plane?

How about allergies?

I'm with ya nael! I'm going to take the Hell Orca with me on my next flight (I'll bring a bucket of water so he doesn't dry out).

I'm trying to figure out which would be freakier. Being on a flight with Weasel, or being on a flight with that master of bait, the Hell Orca.

people know if their pets are well behaved and if they travel well. some dogs can't even ride in cars without freaking out. and of course some dogs do not like people.
but my dog, who loves everybody, comes with his own harness, should be allowed a seat.
there is less of a chance of my dog pissing than soem worthless kid.
there is less of a chance of my dog biting someone than some waste of space baby.
and dogs are easier to shut up than soem wailign baby.

@weasel - i would have no problem being on that flight. i am not sayign that the dogs shouls be allowed to roam free, but they should be allowed to wear a safety harness and fly beside me. to assure that different dogs don't end up right next to one another, they could have X alternatign rows available for a dog.

@kayless - the hell orca can go anywhere he pleases

Nael, I think the problem though is some people are overly optimistic about their pets behavior. Of course that applies to peoples opinions of their children too
Astafas brought up a point about allergies which is a good one.

I think I'm favor of Nael on this one. Aside from the allergies, I can't think of any good reason not to allow pets on a plane.

Well, I did hear that they've recently come out with an allergy shot for those with child allergies !

Definetly with Nael on this one, I mean my dog- (Gomie- 11 yrs. male, old half Russian Poodle half Terrier) is the cutest being in the world, and the least complicated being I've ever seen.

I should get a piture of my fuzzball and post it. It's a North American Spits mixed with a Huskie, and we suspect a bit of Wolf.

i thought about the allergy thing, but some airlines already allow pets if they can fit in a carrier that goes under the seat. so how does that effect allergies?
maybe an airplane changes its air content fast enough so that allergies aren't a problem.
think of the people who have deadly allergies to peanuts, where just the oil can greatly effect their health? how do they fly?

when people first hear about my dog, they think he'll be a killer since he is mainly a pitbull with god knows what else thrown in there, but anyone who sees him realizes the only way he'll be any threat is if he licks you to death.
it's a shame that certain breeds are so stereotyped, and that ridiculous maulign trial in california erroneously reinforced it even further.

Well, first of all, wouldn't the peanut thing require the person to eat the peanuts?

Also, I've known people who were allergic to animals, but wasn't affected unless they actually saw the animal because it wasn't until then that they were reminded that they're allergic.

well here's the thing, i'm very very alergic to cats, i can't even go to people's houses if they have a cat. i would not be ok sitting anywhere near a cat for several hours.

some people wouldn't be comfortable with a dog on a plane becuase they're afraid of what the dog might do. example: you are one of those annoying paranoid over protective mothers of an 8 month old baby. and there is a pitbull sitting next to you. how are you going to feel?

also, some people are afraid of animals, i know a few actually.

one more thing, some people actually do have violent animals, they might be dangerous (the dog trial here in l.a. for example). now, you can say that people ought to use discretion and not bring a violent animal onboard, but you know that's not going to happen, people will bring wild animals anyway.

in short, i don't think that animals should be allowed to have seats on airplanes.

well, for starters, cats could be on just about every plane you'll be on; they have littlew carriers that often look like a regular carry on bag. so, your cat allergy is already being ignored.
as far as violent animals, once again let me say that i think the animal should be placed in a harness. i don't think muzzling is a neccessary step, if so, then kids should be as well. at least that would shut them up.

@SS - no, if someone is allergic to peanuts, just getting the oil on them will cause VERY bad things. there are schools in the country that have banned peanut butter. which enrages a lot of families since peanut butter is a nice cheap source of protein for their kids.

my dog is MUCH more likely to hold it than a stinking baby. my dog and i drove from texas to pennsylvania...a 24 hour drive, 1,500 miles. he never once had an accident. he neve once cried, moaned, or anything. try that same drive with a kid and see how often it screams or forces unscheduled stops for a potty break or doesn't even wait for the break.

as far as the mother of a baby...put the baby with the luggage under the plane in a carrier. that way no one will have to listen to its crying and smell it when it has a bowel movement.

@SS - i mentioned the peanuts because of how widespread they are on planes, and how severe allergic reactions can be. so i was just wondering what measures airlines already use for allergens.

My family used to have a malamute with a smattering of wolf in him (not all that uncommon in Alaska). The pup was fricking huge (well over a hundred pounds) but the sweetest dog you’d ever see. People were often scared by his sheer size, not knowing how gentle he was. He loved to be petted and would nudge your hand if you stopped. He didn't seem to know his own strength though, and could play a bit rough. He would frequently jump on his back legs and push my brothers and I, sending us forcibly to the ground. *Sigh* I miss that dog...
