Cant even start SoA up!

Post by Fitz »

I posted this in tech support, but seeing as they dont get anywhere close to as many views there i figured i would post here too :D

After not playing SoA or ToB for while I came back to them last night to fire them up and maybe solo through but I kept getting the same error. The error doesnt say anything, its just quite small box that says "error" on top of box in the blue header and in the grey space below there is no writing, its just blank. I tried all 5 CDs (4 from SoA 1 ToB) and none worked. The only thing i really tried other than that was restarting which had no effect, i was going to reinstall but thats a pain :rolleys: so if there is an easier fix please lemme know. Pre thanks :)

Did it run before? What changes did you make to your system? What kind of anti-virus programs are you running? What system do you have?
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

I changed absolutely nothing since last time i played. No new patches, fixes, tweaks or anything it was just sitting there from last time i clicked on it. Norton is what i have but have not updated it in like 8 months. Now i have a new problem though. I decided just to go ahead adn re-install, well all was fine till asked for Disc 2 then dman thing froze when i put it in. So i rebooted and went into Add/Remove programs to remove what was copied (since install was 45% done) and sure enough SoA was in the list so i clicked on add/remove and it went through all stuff said uninstall successful. Well it wasnt, it didnt delete anything that had been copied so i manually deleted all of it. Now all i have is my saved games adn portraits so i put in disc again to install. Now it doesnt say install god damn thing says Play, and when i click on play it gives the this is your first time running etc and after that nothing, no error nothing. So i went to add/remove again and it was STILL in menu so i clicked remove, went through actions but nothing happened and its still in menu. Went to install from add/remove and it loads up installshield but then asked if i want to delete all my files. GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR anger lots of anger if anyone can help me please do, im gonna tear my hair out with this damn thing

Do you have Norton WinDoctor? If so, check here.

Also, here is some info on the blue-screen error and game suddenly not knowing it's installed problem.

Finally, check BGII-SoA installation probs.

@Fitz, dual-posting across categories is considered spamming. You have a choice: either remove the topic here, or remove the one under Tech Support. If you keep the Tech Support, then I'll remove this topic in a few hours. Your choice. :)

Thanks Sojourner for the ideas, i dont know what windoctor is so im assuming i dont have it (should i get it?) and at this moment im about to check those links you posted. And Fable, as you can see from all of my 8 yes eight posts i highly doubt im trying to spam, just trying to play BG2 once again. So id appreciate it if you left both topics because as i stated before the tech gets few hits so its ncie to have in both.

@Fitz, I offered you a choice of topics because cross-posting a topic on several categories is spamming, no matter how many posts you get--that's common web courtesy. For now, I'll close this one. If you want to delete the other, I'll open this back up. :)
