This seems like an appropriate topic for "discussion". Which one is the bigger "gaffer"? Who strides forward into dogshyte with more vim and zeal? Who after losing first on the weakest link would stride off stage the more valiant? Who is the likelier to partner Jim Carey in his new movie" Whoops, I've farted!"?

I think Phillip wins hands down. Who can top the "Don't stay here to long, it will turn you slitty eyed" line?

He has always been a joke, no one can match him for his slip ups.

I agree with Sleepy, but two guys are so different. After all, Prince Philip doesn't have political power. Even though he has offended more than a half of the world so far, it is just gaffs, while Mr Dubya Bush can act upon his gaffs.

Ah, I didn't hear about Dan Quayle's gaffs as much as Bush Jr.'s, because I was in Japan with much less English ability when he was the Vice President. Japanese press doesn't report much about gaffs, unless a) Japan or Asian countries (especially China and Korea) are offended, or b) the gaff is too bad to ignore.

For one thing I *think* I do know though...

...these gaffers have what you call the Foot-in-Mouth disease!

With due respect to Fezek's thread, how do you define the "bigger gaffer"?

Judging Sleepy and Minerva's comments on his previous gaffs, DW seems to be the more dangerous one.

John Wayne, despite being one of the world's most overrated thirdrate actors, had brains enough at least to write something considerably better than Dubyah's attempts at improvizing:

He is incapable of seeing that shortterm satisfaction provided to one of his constituencies may end up hurting the world (and not coincidentally, the US) a lot in the long run. Most particularly, his financial policies and abrogation of a series of global agreements are going to hurt, and hurt bad.

Phil's an old Goon Show fan, so I wouldn't be surprised if that spear quote (assuming it's accurate) was meant to break down the reserve of hosts used to carefully treading white Westerners showing up on "goodwill tours." He's made his share of shrewd observations over the year--and I kinda like his scowling attitude adapted to the minions of Margaret Thatcher during her Glory Days.

I just heard Robert Greene's weekly commentary on Radio Nederlands. (Greene's the General Director of External Services.) As usual, it was outrageous and dry, while being delivered in a straightforward style. He began by noting the remarkable spectacle of Bush severely criticizing the conduct of the presidential election in Zimbabwe which, as Greene pointed out, is something that probably should have been done instead by Al Gore. He suggested that if Bush doesn't rise in the morning, look at himself in the mirror and jump with delight screaming, "I'm still getting away with it!" he isn't really human.
