*****SPOILER*********

I on on my third trip through the lovely BG2 and want to try something different.

The first 2 times I wen through spellhold I did not accept the offer to sail back with that sea captain (his name escapes me atm). If I recall correctly I went through a portal which lead to the underdark and that somehow led back to the mainland or somesuch (been a while).

I think that I missed something (sahugin city or something like that?). I want to see that part of the game so I am wondering, if I take passage on that ship and end up in that sahuagin city does that lead to the underdark?

I am just curious atm.

(I think I am having more fun this time through than the previous 2 times)

yeah...you wind up in the underdark anyway..and the treasure in the Sahaugin city is WORTH IT. There's a bit of fighting..but anyone over level 16 will eat the for breakfast.
one particular item you get in there will be especially lovely if you haven't had it beofre. The one which enabled me to clear out the Beholder lair in the Underdark without sustaining ANY DAMAGE WHATSOEVER MAGICAL OR OTHERWISE!!!!!!!!!! go now. ;)

Plus you will get the Impaler and the pieces to the Silver Sword which you can have Cromwell forge together to make the Vorpal Blade.

The impaler and Cloak of Reflection is just so nasty(hint: Cloak of Reflection on Korgan, Rage Korgan and you have a berserker that is immunte to everything a Beholder or Lich can offer!!!)

The items are nice, but the best thing is that you'll to meet the probably funniest creature in the game. Hint: It's got more eyes than your party has members and is seriously tired of guarding something. Enjoy!

You know, terrible, unkillable villans like Saemon Haverian, chatty beholders, fables that warn not to place regal chairs in unstable domiciles, and whoever that group was that was really excited about their identify scroll/spell (I forget) provide an incredible amount of relief from the tiresome hack'n'slash that is the rest of the game. Between the teams best attempts at de-linearizing (hahahaha) the plot and other creative elements, I don't think I'll ever be able to call another one of those "books on video game" games an rpg.

Assuming you haven't got ToB installed. As I recall, the Cloak of Reflection is downgraded, because the developers considered it (rightly) to be just about all-powerful.

How downgrade is it? I think now beholders can hurt me, but is there more?

@Samcu: with the tob version of the cloak, you still won't be hurt be beholders... you just won't be hurting them back :(

IIRC, it also protects against AREA affect spells which the old one didn't. But you are also given a very annoying new animation when your character wears it- the same swirly globe thats used for spell trap.

(In a thread on the ToB board, Sojourner pointed out how to turn the cloak back to the original SoA version. All you have to do is remove CLCK26.itm from the override folder, and for this he has my eternal gratitude :) )
