I was wondering what you all find of Illigal software (copying CD-ROM's but also movies (DIVX) of MP3's.

I know it isn't right, but i myself have al 3 namemed above.
Why?? well, it's cheap.

CD's cost about €20,- here, so i only buy CD's when i realy want them, and have a lot of singles (mostly oldies) on MP3.

Same goes for software, a game costs about €55 here, but I don't game very often, and the only one I play is Baldur's Gate and I have both legal.

But movies i watch a lot on my PC. A friend of mine has a beamer, so whe have a cinema at home, and i'm not gonna buy a dvd for €50.-

But i was wondering how you all think about this.....

I had a discussion about this on the BG2 forum way back when.
I don't see anything wrong in illegal merchandise - hold on don't burn me at the stake yet.

I have lived in the third World for a majority of my life.
I could not get proper copyrighted stuff in Pakistan - Egypt - Indonesia etc etc.
If i did, it was higher than what you pay in the US.

Take a simple example of windows 95 which in 1999 was nearly 500 dollars in Egypt - that is US dollars.
I don't have that kind of money, so what did i do?
Bought an illegal copy.

None of my friends have heard of BG, PST Diablo etc, because they are not promoted in the Third World or sold there.
If i want a game i buy it in the west, if i want to buy an original copy in Pakistan it is a waste of money as it will cost twice as much as it does in the US.

Frankly you can't expect countries or people in the less developed part of the world to stay behind and not progress due to some stupid idea of copy rights.
I agree that the people who do the work do get swindled out of hard earned money.
But when it comes down to the wire, i know i am not going to pay 500 bucks for something i can get in 2.

As you can see i am very much pro-third world development even if it means breaking some rules.
