I found a way to actually SAVE the party placement, if anyone of you still have trouble doing that.
You need to select your party members individually and then press the save button for each one of them.
Anyway that worked for me, and I haven't had that problem for weeks

You don't need to do that. Just enter individual mode place each party member the way you like, hit the save formation button and regroup. the party will keep the formation you've created.
