Is there anyone dual booting?

I want to dual boot with Win98 SE and WinXP (Japanese edition)with Partition Magic. I have created hidden second Primary drive, but cannot install XP-- I mean, I cannot even start the installer.

Does someone know the way?

i have win98se with xp. what i do is install win98se firts to a different partition and then xp from win98 (i clean install) to my primary partirion. This works and gives you the choice at the start to choose what OS you want to start.

Install 98 on one partition, then start the setup from the XP cd. It will allow you to create a new partition with any unpartitioned disk space you have and will allow you to install XP on that partition. You don't actually need to use any third party software like Partition Magic.

Another thing do not use NTFS to any of the partition cause you will have some problems. Fat32 can not see any file system with NTFC structure so if you manage to instal both Winxp and Win98se you won't be able to see the partition of Xp when you start with Win98.

Just use fat32 to all the the partitions. If you need any help of how to create a new partition just let me know.

I dualed using Win98SE and WinXP. WinXP does have a partition program w/in its installer, but I found a shareware product, called BootMagic, that works pretty well.

The whole idea with mine was to keep the old data safe, so I kept my first partition as the old 98 one (FAT32) and just made it smaller.

I made a second partition as FAT32 to share files on - MP3s, Video files, downloads, I put pretty much any none program file there.

The third partition is NTFS, and that's where XP is. The setup works really well.

A final note, once you have the dual partition up, you can change the boot menu options just by editing a text file (does anyone else remember which one?).

I managed to create WinXP partition and dual-boot with Boot Magic (came with my old Partition Magic). This turned out to be helpful. Firstly, I could not install WinXP from Win98, because Win98 cannot read Japanese! Therefore, I had to install before my computer loads Win98, so I needed a new partition and boot setting for that. Also, after installing WinXP, my machine only loaded from there, and not from Win98. As my main Windows should be Win 98, I used Boot Magic Rescue Diskette to force my machine to start from Win98, then reset the setting of Boot Magic.

My computer is now bilingual.
