I too was surprised alcohol was involved.

Alcohol gives a boost to AC as you are staggering around to much to present a good target.
it also confers a +2 bonus to strength of the blows you land as your whole body stumbles along after each swing.

On the downside however, alcohol has a -3 charisma effect untill rest, and you have to make a savingthrow every round vs falling on the ground at -5.

young children will gad about the playgrounds, freshly vinigered porpoise in hand, and boast to the friends about who has the bigger/stiffer/longer/harder gudgeon. It'll be the dawn of a new era of seafood related sports entertainment until some nutcase in Brazil decides to slaughter his classmates with a stolen herring. Oh the shame....
