Is ther a demo of pool of radience somewhere?
I just saw it in the store, and wanted to buy it, but it's €40,- and that's quite a lot for a poor student.
With what game should i compare it? With Planescape/ baldurs gate etc....

Yes there is a playable Demo of the game. Check it out
here.
You can compare the game with BG or PT since it's also another game in the Forgotten Realms and uses D&D rules. The differences are the game uses 3rd edition D&D and a turn based battle system.

Please see my comment in the "As newbie as you can get" thread posted on this board as that relates to a general comarison of this game and Baldurs Gate. While I believe that this game can be generally compared with the Interplay/Bioware games that you mention, there are sizeable differences. I think one of my favorite CPRG's of all time was Planescape: Torment, and I would not compare this game with that one at all. It was my opinion in PT that combat was definitely secondary to character interaction and puzzle solving, and combat in general in PT was not particularly interesting to me (except for the spell effects). In RoMD, combat is king. Character interaction and puzzle solving are, essentially, more atrophied and useless than your appendix (if you still have it). To give an example, one of the questions most often seen on these boards is "I've gotten to the door that needs the ____ key, where is it?" More often than not, the answer is "Behind the door, you need to get to it from another level." I kid you not. If you want a dungeon hack, get the game. If you expect another PT, and don't care for the combat, avoid it at all costs.
